Hello friends 👋🏾 Looking to highlight a passion project.... The Herons Nest is a restorative justice landback project with respect to The Duwamish Tribe. As the restoration lead I have been working with volunteers to rematriate a parcel of land located in west seattle. The project itself is perched above the Duwamish Longhouse with the Duwamish greenbelt connecting the two spaces. Here we are working to restore the soil, remove invasive plants and repopulate the land with native plants necessary for the thrival of both the land and it's first peoples. The concept of landback is in part returning land that has been stolen but also learning how to bring the land we occupy back into balance and restoring ecosystems from the impacts of settler colonialism and the continued harms brought about by the industrial revolution and poisons that have been introduced to control so called "weeds" and "pests". Weekly our volunteers gather to focus efforts on healing the soil, upskilling in indigenous ways of tending to the earth, healing from separation of the natural world and food sovereignty for the first peoples. This just scratches the surface of all we do here however it seems like enough for folx to have a sense of what we're about. If you're curious about or are wanting support in learning how to live in right relationship with the land this project is a great resource for those willing to open thier hearts and learn how to be in reciprocity with the land, its critters and the first peoples, The Duwamish Tribe. Our project shares space with the seattle giving garden network and thier annual sprouts program. I've included a flier of the upcoming plant giveaways happening at the Herons Nest. I invite you to the land and offer myself as a guide for those wanting to either get involved or those just curious about the project itself. I'm on the land every Monday from 10am to 2pm offering guided tours upon request. Guided tours happen after lunchtime [not a "set in stone" time but rather the time all volunteers present agree upon during the workday] If you're interested in dropping by please do not hesitate to reach for me. /

Mood // #SelfAccountability #everyonesGrumpyOverAI Actions always speak louder than words. Our behavior has a lasting impact even if we do not realize it. I think about this often. How powerful I am, how powerful each person is. I feel like so many people are in the dark on this wisdom. I've been reflecting a lot lately on how English, the oppressors tounge, is noun based...and most indigenous cultures have languages that are verb based. I think about how behavior translates across our being moving through us as energy taking new forms. In what ways have you, with your adult mind, re examined the English language? Does the language sever you from a root tongue in your ancestry?

Did you know Orange Honeysuckle vines can grow/ climb an upwards of 20ft into the air? This northern turtle island native deciduous vine attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and birds; their berries are eaten by birds. Nows the time to view them. Look for speckles of orange at the tops of the understory, chances are high that what you're seeing off in the distance might just be the vines orange trumpet flower clusters.

Snake kin spotted sunbathing early in the morning. Our Reptile and Amphibian relatives act as living indicators of an ecosystems diversity and vitality. 🙌🏾 Gratitude to our snake kin. 🐍 ------------------------------------------------------------ 🤓 Key insights regarding snakes on restored land: Healthy Food Web Indicator: Snakes act as both predator and prey, indicating a balanced, resilient environment that is recovering from degradation. Restoration Maturity: Their presence often correlates with habitat restoration, though small, less mobile species may take longer to colonize restored areas compared to larger, more mobile ones. Habitat Quality: Snake activity reveals the presence of necessary structural components, such as ground cover, brush piles, and foraging areas, which are vital for a healthy ecosystem. Environmental Stability: Their return suggests the restoration site is operating normally rather than as an "anemic," degraded ecosystem.

🎨 Join us in an empowering space where art meets action! Our Creative Resistance Gatherings bring people together to explore art as a tool for change, healing, and connection. Whether you’re painting banners for climate justice, crafting zines to amplify unheard voices, or designing wearable art for social movements, this is your space to dream, create, and resist. Together, we’ll reimagine a just world and transform our ideas into tangible expressions of hope, solidarity, and resistance. Come to meet and socialize with members of other liberation focused groups, orgs, and movements, and bring whatever you want to work on or fold into an ongoing project! Previous events have resulted in the creation of water banners for our river and waterway protectors, banners for bridges and signs for actions / marches, lino cutting, sewing projects for biofiltration experiments, button making, painting, crocheting and so much more. Thursday, May 7th & 21st 5-9pm 4818 Puget Way sw, Seattle Washington 98106

Propagation is an act of continuity. Seed Meeting Soil. Plant Becoming Many. Growing new plants begins in small, often unseen ways - a seed waking beneath the soil, a cutting reaching for its own roots. DETAILS: Date: Thursday, 5/14/26 Time: 5:00-7:00pm Location: Heron's Nest (4818 Puget Way SW, Seattle) Join us at the Heron’s Nest for a hands-on workshop exploring how plants continue, multiply, and remake themselves. We’ll move through simple, tactile practices - learning how seeds begin and how cuttings become new plants. This project is funded in part by a Food Equity Fund award from Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. REGISTRATION : https://forms.gle/6ZMqfuih7BRtiQQg9

Thank you @nicsanfordbelgard for this gift. 🥰 🦫🦫🦫 I'm all teeth around this drone flute. Smiles for miles. The beaver makes my heart so happy and the color is fire. The custom green / fade to black is so neat. I love the color / feel / vibe. I've got a goal in my heart to feel out a little melody. I have a beaver I'd like to offer a song to. Grateful to begin deepening my relationship with breath / harmony. Thank you Nic 🙏🏾🪶🪶🪶
