This may be a hard pill to swallow, but you can get results without excessive cardio and restrictive dieting... We're surrounded by tempting quick fixes like fad diets, beach body shakes and 21 day fixes, intermittent fasting, juice cleanses, caffeine pills, and workout ads with 19 year old instagram influencers with perfect abs. We've all tried them, but have they ever worked? 👎🏻 Temporarily, sure, but long term? NEVER. Here's why... When you subscribe to one of those programs, they're handing you the flower planted in soil but not teaching you HOW to take care of it. They may provide you with a temporary dose of Miracle Grow, but if you don't water that flower, make sure it gets direct sunlight, and NURTURE it, it won't bloom year after year, growing bigger and stronger each time. In fact, it may even die, and you'll have to start over again, feeling like a failure. I lost 100lbs twice 🤯💪 The first time, I tried every diet imaginable, punished myself for eating with working out, and still wasn't happy with the way I looked. The second time, focused on daily acts of self care like walking, eating the rainbow, and meditation and have since kept the weight off for 6+ years. Knowing what I know now, here are 3 things I would NEVER DO to lose weight again. 1) DROP MY CALORIES TO 1200/DAY: The body requires a minimum number of calories to function properly. For most adults, this is higher than 1200 calories per day. Consistently eating below this rate can lead to muscle loss, hormonal problems, and a decrease in metabolic rate, which hinders long-term weight loss results. Instead, connect with a certified nutritionist (like myself) to help you create a specific plan to enter and exit a deficit healthfully. 2) CUT OUT AN ENTIRE FOOD GROUP: Eliminating entire food groups, such as carbohydrates or fats, can deprive your body of essential nutrients that your body needs! For example, carbohydrates provide energy, proteins build and repair tissues, fats are essential for hormone production and absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and fruits and vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber crucial for overall health. Instead, focus on portion sizing and timing of these macro nutrients. I always focus on adding to my diet rather than subtracting from it. 3) DO A WORKOUT I HATED: Hating your workouts or punishing yourself with endless hours of cardio can lead to decreased motivation, making it harder to stick with an exercise routine long-term. It can also increase stress levels and diminish the overall enjoyment of physical activity. Instead, focus on activities that you enjoy that fit into your overall lifestyle! Have kids? Go for a daily bike ride together. LOVE dance? Join us for dance cardio at ButtaBeeFit. It's time to stop listening to thin-fluencers, end the cycle of chronic dieting, and start taking care of yourself for good.
