Hace unos meses, y para el reportaje de Hola de esta semana, tuvimos el privilegio de conocer a la familia de Lord y Lady Faringdon y descubrir la majestuosidad de su impresionante casa en Oxfordshire, llamada Buscot Park, a orillas del Río Támesis. Sus jardines son un espectáculo por sí solos: cada uno lleva el nombre de una estación del año, asegurando que siempre haya flores en algún rincón de la propiedad.
El interior de la casa refleja siglos de arte y buen gusto. La mansión alberga, una de las colecciones más importantes de Inglaterra, con obras de Rembrandt, Botticelli, Rubens, Murillo y Burne-Jones, además de muebles históricos de Robert Adam y Thomas Hope, y salones diseñados por @alidad_ltd .
Pero la casa no es solo belleza y arte; también es historia viva. Durante la Guerra Civil Española, el Segundo Lord Faringdon ofreció asilo a 55 adolescentes vascos evacuados tras el bombardeo de Guernica, que vivieron allí durante mucho tiempo , así como a intelectuales exiliados como Luis Cernuda, Pedro Garfias y Arturo Barea.
Una casa que inspiró a también a la mismísima Agatha Christie en sus libros , y es donde la historia, la memoria y la majestuosidad conviven en perfecta armonía.

Our new display in the dining room at Buscot Park celebrates some of our famous and influential visitors. You might be surprised by some of them!
Gavin, 2nd Baron Faringdon hosted many distinguished guests at Buscot Park during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Many were from his two main areas of interest: Labour politics, and the arts. Politicians, economists, writers, artists and architects all came together over dinner to discuss the big questions of the day. Can you imagine what their conversations might have been?
We have reproduced their signatures from the Buscot Park visitor books on our monogrammed china, and set the table for a fantasy dinner party. Guests include:
•Aneurin Bevan, founder of the NHS
•Harold Wilson, Prime Minister
•Jennie Lee, founder of the Open University
•Ernö Goldfinger, Brutalist architect whose controversial work inspired Ian Fleming to name a Bond villain after him
•Madge Ashton (aka Madge Garland), fashion journalist and first Professor of Fashion at the Royal College of Art
•Jane Drew, ‘Tropical Modernist’ architect and town planner
•Seewoosagur Rangoolam, founding father of the nation of Mauritius

On Saturday 26th April, Ben Shoeman will play a selection of piano favourites including Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight’ Sonata and Chopin’s Nocturne in C minor.
