✨Our Events & How We Hold Space✨ As we move into this new year full of community programs and opportunities to connect, we want to lovingly but clearly share guidelines about our events: • All events and programs will clearly indicate for whom they are intended. The majority of our flyers and event descriptions will say SPACE RESERVED FOR OUR INDIGENOUS RELATIVES—these spaces are created for Indigenous people and are closed to non-Indigenous attendees. • We also host BIPOC-only and Ally/Open events—these will be clearly marked. Ally/Open events may have a cost for non-Indigenous attendees. • All events are grounded in mutual respect—honoring diverse Nations, cultures, identities, and lived experiences—while ensuring shared space is held collectively, without domination. Staff and facilitators are here to support the space, not to serve individual demands. Burning Cedar is a space where: • you do not have to explain your identity • you can show up as Indigenous/BIPOC without teaching, translating, or justifying • you can learn, share, create, rest, and simply BE in community These spaces are not: • Classrooms for learning “how to be Indigenous” (that does not exist) • Spaces for outsiders to observe, consume, or study Indigenous people or culture Some events may be tribally specific. When that is the case, it will be clearly stated, and those events will be closed to people outside that Nation. We ask for patience and grace—we may not know everything about your people, and you are welcome to share as much or as little as you want. *You are never obligated to educate.* We are committed to creating spaces where Indigenous people can breathe, exist, and belong, and where community care is practiced with intention and shared openly. See our pinned graphics for details on expectations for everyone, Indigenous spaces, BIPOC spaces, and Ally events.
