With my brilliant Hunter College piano major Danielle Wu (aka @daniellew.u ) after her scintillating and commanding performance of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Hunter Symphony Orchestra last night.
Improvisation on Saint-Saëns’ “Aquarium”, part of “Animals Carnaval”, a reimagining of Camille Saint-Saëns’s The Carnival of the Animals for quintet, including improvisational sections, and infused with Brazilian musical traditions, including samba, bossa nova, and choro, by the brilliant Gene Pritsker (aka @genenoizepunkpritsker ) Our show at Joe’s Pub on Sunday, May 3rd includes luminary violinist @anneakikomeyers , who will join us for the Saint-Saëns, and with whom I’ll be performing the violin and piano version of Arturo Márquez’s vibrant Danzón No. 2. I’ll also be performing with the jazz funk collective Sound Liberation at the show.
