A new urban living room in the center of Zeist.
Bureau B+B was commissioned to reimagine the Market as a lively and green square that reconnects its surroundings and redefines its role as a place for meeting and culture.
Today, the Market holds a central position but lacks spatial clarity and quality of stay. The existing cultural center turns inward, limiting connections, while traffic and street layouts fragment the space. Despite mature trees, the largely paved environment contributes to heat stress and a lack of comfort and identity.
Our proposal addresses these challenges by reshaping the Market into an inviting and active public space. A new House for Culture and Meeting brings together a diverse program and forms a strong spatial edge. The result is a clear and legible urban structure: an open, green square for markets, events, and everyday life, anchored by a contemporary cultural building and forming a renewed heart for Zeist.

Last month, @bnsp.bnsp published the book Stand van de Stedenbouw marking its 25th anniversary. The publication reflects on the current state of urbanism in the Netherlands and presents a broad selection of projects, essays and perspectives addressing today’s spatial challenges.
We are pleased that three projects by Bureau B+B are included: Lange Weeren and Veghels Buiten, both featured in relation to urban expansion areas, and Carnisse Eiland, presented in the context of campus transformations.
The book offers a valuable overview of contemporary urban design practice and the evolving debate on how we plan and design our cities.
Construction has recently started on Nieuwe Weelde in Hoorn. The project is a transformation of former hockey fields into a green residential environment for senior living.
Sixty affordable homes are embedded within a robust park structure that prioritizes walking, meeting and thriving urban nature. A clear diagonal axis organizes the site and integrates a semi-sunken parking into the terrain, keeping the ground plane open, continuous and pedestrian-focused. A collective rooftop garden anchors daily social life.
Biodiversity is woven into the design at multiple scales: existing trees are retained and reinforced with new planting; habitats for birds, bats, amphibians and pollinators are integrated throughout the site; wadis support water retention while shaping seasonal, living landscapes.
Together, these interventions will create a resilient and socially connected living environment. We look forward to seeing Nieuwe Weelde grow in the coming years.

What does it take for a tree to grow old in the city?
In a time of climate stress and urban densification, mature trees are indispensable. At the same time, many urban trees fail to reach maturity. Commissioned by the College van Rijksbouwmeester en Rijksadviseurs (CRa), Bureau B+B investigated how urban landscapes can be designed to support trees in reaching maturity and growing old.
Mature trees provide significant ecological value: cooling streets, regulating water, storing carbon, and supporting biodiversity through complex crown structures and underground mycorrhizal networks. Yet our research and years of project experience show that trees are often integrated too late in the planning process, when spatial and technical frameworks are already fixed. Designing for longevity requires a shift – reserving space from day one, treating soil as a living system, selecting suitable species, and embedding trees early in decision-making processes.
The research results in a set of spatial principles and process recommendations to help cities design for planting trees and ensuring they thrive over time.

Happy to share that two projects from our office archive are featured in the new publication “Een Vereniging van Tuinkunstenaars - Grondleggers van de tuin- en landschapsarchitectuur in Nederland”. This new book by @uitgeverijblauwdruk describes the rich and fascinating history of the creation of the Bond of Dutch Garden Architects (BNT), the predecessor of today’s The Netherlands Association for Landscape Architecture (@nvtl_vereniging ).
The book portrays those present at the very first members’ meeting in 1923 and showcases a large number of remarkable projects from the prewar period of the profession. Two featured projects that our office has extensively worked on are Wilhelminapark in Tilburg and the garden of Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. Contemporary photography reveals how the designs of that time have developed into mature parks, gardens, and green spaces that shape today’s urban and landscape environment.
As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on a year of ideas tested, spaces transformed, and collaborations that made it possible.
Thank you for every conversation, sketch, and site visit along the way.
Warm end-of-year wishes from the Bureau B+B team.
We’re excited to share a glimpse of Lingehoven, a new neighborhood taking shape in Tiel. Over the past months, our team has been developing an urban plan that connects heritage, landscape and healthy ways of living.
Lingehoven grows from a layered framework of industrial traces, green structures, and the Doode Linge river as its blue-green backbone. Limited car presence opens up generous space for play, sport, and everyday encounters. Historic buildings are integrated into the plan and explored as potential anchors for a lively, connected community, including the possibility of a future neighborhood hub for meeting, sharing, and local energy storage.
With a diverse mix of homes, strong links to the city center, and a climate-adaptive landscape, Lingehoven is set to become a vibrant and inclusive part of Tiel.

still haven’t recovered from the positive shock… the Siegen model glowing on the ARCH+ cover feels almost unreal ⚡️
the archiecture competition entry (@fakt_office + @gustavdusing ) for the new architecture school in Siegen made it there — a moment that shows what’s possible when design becomes truly collaborative and transcends disciplines.
couldn’t have happened without the collective intelligence of @transsolar_klimaengineering@schlaichbergermannpartner and @bureaubplusb who helped from day 1 to push the idea beyond architecture into climate, structure and landscape thinking.
see slide 2 for some previews and slide 3 and 4 for some collective research and a look into the low-tech climate conception by Transsolar.
thanks a lot to @archplusnet
Construction of Mookly in Amsterdam has officially begun!
We’re proud to be part of Mookly – a green and sustainable development in Amsterdam’s Amstelkwartier. The project will bring 281 new homes to the city, including 246 mid-rent apartments.
Bureau B+B, as part of a larger team, has reimagined a city block where nature is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Our concept, “Mookly: Raised by Nature,” creates a green oasis where children grow up in harmony with flora and fauna. From rooftop gardens to living facades, every element is designed to foster connections between people and nature.
Completion is expected by the end of 2028.

Planting season at Avans, Den Bosch has begun. 🌿
In the heart of the Paleiskwartier, the new campus is transforming from construction site to living urban landscape. With the buildings nearly complete, the planting marks the final step toward a vibrant green space for studying and community living.
We are looking forward to seeing it in full bloom next year.

Last month our team went on an immersive excursion to England’s Lake District, discovering the layered history of its cultural landscape. From post-glacial valleys and volcanic slate to the living heritage of Lowther Castle, Levens Hall and cozy pubs. It was an inspiring lesson on how identity of a place endures when architecture and landscape design grow from the geology, local materials, and vernacular traditions.
