it's been 100 days since my dear friend passed. Everyday I'd draw a few little guys with a certain determination as if it could somehow bring her back. We became friends from being in the same fandoms, and together we've both grown beyond that tiny sandbox since. She was a multi-faceted, multi-talented being with unmatched compassion and humanity. Somehow simultaneously as she tirelessly worked, taken care of her family, friends, and communities, while nurturing her own crafts, she still had the energy to indulge in new hyper-fixations. 100 days later and it still feels like I've kept this hidden to surprise her for her birthday. Love and miss you forever @dadienmieu 🫂💝
it's been 6 weeks since one of my best friends ever passed away. for 6 weeks i struggled with this painting to convey her softness despite the many times i've drawn her over the years. the cheeky glow in her eyes whenever she smiled and bared her cute crooked teeth. the entire colorful worlds of passion and wisdom that she carried with her and would seep through every word she spoke and everything she made. the mischievousness of every little pun she'd sneak into a serious message or the little gifts she'd get behind your back. the care in her notes app checklists of everything her friends liked or disliked so she would never forget. by grieving together with the whole village of friends she has left behind, i learn more and more things about her everyday still. she was an even better person than i'd already known and it makes her passing that much worse.
she's said some foreshadowing ass shit, one of which was "life is so short, it's precious enough to walk even a little bit of the way together". and it really is. i'm nothing but grateful to have had the opportunity to not only know someone like miêu but to be best friends too. out of 92 million people also born on the same piece of land we call Vietnam that was only beginning to rapidly develop, during an age with phones and internet so we could meet from two opposite ends of the country. to share the same humor, tastes, beliefs, interests that all evolved independently to arrive at the same things even when we talked less and got to cry and laugh together through it all for over a decade. to love and support each other from our cringiest eras through every version of ourselves. to have been friends in this tiny corner of the whole wide world, at this speck of dust in the width of time, really is so precious.
thank you for showing me a pure and unconditional love through our friendship. thank you for leaving a beautiful impact on this bitch of an earth and those who knew you. i hope we can still be best friends in every timeline and in every life.
