HAMPSTEAD.

Construction has started on our residential farmstead in the suburbs of Ghent, Wondelgem. Looking forward to the realisation of two multi-family clusters where each row embraces a courtyard street. Gentle urban densification surrounded by collective greenery.

Collective Convent.
For @bulkarchitecten , 2025. Published for the new @architectura.be awards.
A little outside of Antwerp lies the little city of Mortsel. A decent middle ground between the real city's bustle and green outdoor hamlets away from the centre. Hidden in this recognizable municipality you can find some very agreable neighbourhoods which have everything normal people need. Between the city centre and the old fortress lies Oude God, with surprisingly pleasant streets.
The new interventions in this urban fabric try to extend the quality that was already there. A new public connection gives space to a new little park and playground and collective gardens search for subtle contact on the streets. Cornerblocks mark clear figures with identyfiable adresses. Old trees stand tall next to the new facades and make the complex seem to belong there immediately. I couldn't help myself but think of Muzio, associating this to a modern convent in Mortsel.

Facing Onwards.
From some time ago - our proposal for the site Moorkensplein in Borgerhout, Antwerp for @ag_vespa
A library, kindergarten and public services, loosely scattered around a series of gardens, ranging from very public to very secret. And a strong confident front to literally confront the urban expectations.

Farmstead for the youth.
@bulkarchitecten , 2026.
In Park Groot Schijn, the masterplan has created different chambres for a number of activities. Ranging from sports to recreational infrastructure, and rooms for the youth to greenery, the park is a generous extension to Rivierenhof across the street. Bulk renewed the existing farmstead cluster in the central area into a bunch of serene and vernacular sheds as bases and a party hall for the local youth movement.

In 2025 we also made a lot of plans. After all, that's our job. Some of those plans we print out, some we realise—given the necessary patience—and others just end up in a drawer.
There are plans that are forgotten, folded up, kept or hung up, dug up or rediscovered. Usually more time is spent drawing up those plans than thoroughly considering them.
The plan is the ultimate step between dream and deed, between ambition and realisation. As a medium, the plan still connects everyone in our field. Planning implies labour, work and action in one movement, which makes planning both a means and an end.
Making plans is the raison d'être of our profession.
Hence this tasty selection of plans.
One for each project we've been working on.
They are silent witnesses to a year of hard work and drawing.
Everyone tried their best ,in honour and conscience, until they were “good”. Whatever that may mean.
Plans are also in our heads; they are about giving meaning to our daily activities. And hopefully we know very well why we ultimately make all those plans.
