CO—, the digital platform created by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, recently profiled Kim Roxie, founder of LAMIK Beauty, to highlight a specific blueprint for startup growth. In a venture landscape where less than 3% of funding reaches female-led companies, Kim navigated a different path. By strategically stacking over $120,000 in non-dilutive capital through pitch competitions and the W.E. Build Accelerator, she built the necessary proof-of-concept to scale a national brand on her own terms. While building in Tulsa LAMIK Beauty has: • Launched on Ulta.com and Nordstrom.com, with upcoming in-store launches at JC Penney. • Products now available in 35 Hy-Vee stores across four states. • Doubled overall sales within the last 24 months. Kim utilized the W.E. Build program to refine her operations and with the $25,000 in funding she received while in the W.E. Build Accelerator LAMIK launched its Tulsa brick-and-mortar location. Skipping validation doesn’t save time. It usually just delays the lesson. In the beginning, validation can feel slow. Customer conversations take effort. Testing assumptions takes humility. Changing your mind can feel inconvenient when you’re eager to launch. So some founders skip ahead and tell themselves they’ll figure it out later. But what you skip early has a way of showing up later at a higher cost. It can look like building a product nobody really uses, inventory nobody buys twice, messaging that never quite lands, content that gets attention but not traction, or features that felt important but solved the wrong problem. By then, you’ve already invested time, money, and emotional energy. And the cost isn’t just financial. It can cost confidence. There’s something deeply discouraging about working hard on something that still feels uncertain especially when that uncertainty could have been surfaced earlier through better discovery and testing. Validation isn’t about eliminating risk. Entrepreneurship will always include risk. Validation is about reducing avoidable risk. It helps you learn whether the problem is urgent, whether the customer feels it strongly enough to act, whether your solution direction makes sense, and whether there’s a real reason to keep going. That’s why validation isn’t slowing you down, it’s aiming you. Learning earlier helps you move smarter later. That isn’t hesitation. That’s discipline.
