Started with a new client this week. One of the sharpest builders I've coached. Before we kicked off, I asked him for context. Numbers, financials, marketing, full breakdown of what he's running. The prep he sent through was next level. But the thing that stuck wasn't the financials. It was a line he dropped. "I love leaning into challenges. I love doing difficult things. I love how it feels because I know I'm going to grow and evolve." That's the difference. You can teach a builder a lot: - Margin and pricing - Sales process and pre-construction - Systems, team, and operations What you can't teach is the willingness to lean into the hard stuff. The builders who break through to the 7 Figure Club share that trait. They run toward the difficult conversation, the difficult numbers, the difficult decisions. Not away from them. Builder insolvencies are at unprecedented levels. A normal year sees somewhere between 1000 and 1400 builders go under across Australia. We're well past that. And we're not at the bottom yet. Three numbers worth pricing in: - The pool of quality builders and subbies is shrinking fast. - Australia is already 200,000 homes behind where we should be. - On current trajectory, we're looking at nearly half a million homes behind by 2030. Our population is less than a tenth of the US. The demand pressure that creates is enormous. The red tape isn't helping. The builders who come through the other side of this won't be the cheapest. Saw a post from Elon Musk yesterday. 44 million views. The research is wild. AI tools are designed to please you. Ask it a question, it agrees. Ask it again, it agrees harder. Especially if it senses you want to be right. Now extrapolate that. People spending hours every day with AI. People who are isolated. People who just want validation. The research is showing they're ending up with worldviews completely detached from reality. Why does this matter for a builder? Three reasons: - If you're using AI to "advise" you on pricing, contracts, or strategy, it tells you what you want to hear. Not what you need to hear. - The most expensive thing in a building business is a builder who's wrong but feels right. - Real growth comes from someone in your corner who'll tell you the hard truth, even when it's uncomfortable. A good coach, a peer, a mentor will push back. AI won't. That's the difference. If your business decisions are getting validated by something built to agree with you, you've got a problem.
