🌟 Step into sustainability learning at BUGS! 🌟 We are thrilled to welcome families and friends to our Open Classrooms and Sustainable Design Expo tomorrow, May 15 (check today's email from BUGS family coordinator for details). Prepare to be inspired by the big thinking and deep learning our students achieved this year!
Don't miss the 8th Grade Sustainable Design Expo, where students are presenting climate-resilient adaptive reuse designs for the Brooklyn Army Terminal. These future-thinking projects are the result of deep dives into solutions-based approaches to the climate crisis and Field Study investigations at Bush Terminal Park, Industry City. SolarOne, WindScape and repeat visits to Brooklyn Army Terminal. Our innovative designers and sustainability changemakers are reimagining Brooklyn!
A big thank you to @conedison for their vital program support and to our project partner, the @instituteforpublicarchitecture

Join us this Friday, May 15, for the #BUGS 8th Grade Sustainable Design Expo! 🌍 Our students have been busy investigating solutions to the climate crisis and exploring climate-resilient design features through site visits to Bush Terminal Park, Industry City, and the Brooklyn Army Terminal, and by speaking with community leaders, elected officials, and neighbors. They also visited @solaronenyc to learn about solar energy and the new wind energy education center @windscapebrooklyn
We are excited to see student teams present their adaptive reuse designs to families, community members, and judges. A huge shoutout to our program partner, the Institute for Public Architecture @the_iparch 🏗️✨ and program funder @conedison Edison.
BUGS is thrilled to celebrate our students and Educating for Sustainability during #CharterSchoolsWeek and to be part of a movement preparing students with the skills to grow as leaders and problem solvers.

Passport to Gratitude: A "Tour De Force" Recap! ✈️🌍
Last week, our BUGS staff traveled around the world for Staff Appreciation Week, and we couldn't have reached the finish line without the incredible generosity of our BUGS PTA and our amazing families! 💚
Our journey was fueled by your support: 🥐 Stop 1: Paris – We kicked things off with a hearty Parisian breakfast that made Monday feel like a dream.
☕ Stop 2: London – Afternoon Tea featured those iconic scones from Alice's Tea Cup (a true fan favorite!).
🍝 Stop 3: Italy – Our PTA treated us to a MASSIVE Italian Pasta Bar from Psta. (Note: No photos exist because it was devoured almost instantly—it was that good! 😋)
🍰 The Sweetest Detours – The week was filled with even more local love, including stunningly delicious treats from our very own BUGS parent, @mikescakesandtreats ! BUGS ADORES YOU!
To our teachers and staff: You are the "force" that makes BUGS move.
To our families: Thank you for helping us celebrate our team in such a grand, global way. We are so grateful for you. Your love and support makes us grow🌱💚
Check out some highlights from our travels! 📸✨

#BUGS 6th Grade Social Studies students wrapped up their Cultural Exchanges unit by hosting a Silk Road-inspired picnic. Students brought dishes made with ingredients inspired by spices, fruits, plants, and grains of the historic trade routes, exploring how food represents the benefits and drawbacks of an interconnected world.
Hands on learning and new perspectives!

A big #BUGS Shoutout to @Jalapeno_king for hosting our class! 🌮 We had an amazing time learning about running a small business, sourcing ingredients, and, of course, enjoying some delicious tacos.
Thank you for the warm welcome, generous hospitality, and hands-on learning opportunity!
We hope to see you again soon.

During the Frost Valley overnight trip, #BUGS 7th graders dove deep into their water stewardship grade-level theme. 💧
From releasing trout they’ve raised all year to touring the reservoir and hiking through nature, they’re growing their understanding of how our actions impact living things and our drinking water.
A huge thank you to the @catskillwatershedcorporation for their generous support! 🙌

Enjoy this scene from today's #BUGS Bird Watching Lunch Club! This club was actually started by a 6th grader this year, and today they were spotting chimney swifts at the amazing @historicgreenwood .
This is just one of the many lunch clubs where students connect, explore their interests, and have fun.
