Wow! Honestly, could not be more thrilled with this yearâs poster design from @lynn_oleum ! The 2025 theme was decided at the beginning of the year and RISE UP feels more and more appropriate each day. Lynn did a wonderful job incorporating the theme of togetherness through community resistance into her design. We are excited to see how the theme is incorporated into other aspects of this yearâs event - the samba parade theme is âStill We Riseâ and art is always a beautiful form of resistance and this theme is sure to show up unexpectedly in vendor booths as well!

Honoring my Central American ancestry I chose the Jaguar âBalamâto be the central theme of this piece. Jaguars are Lords of the Forest. The biggest of the five predatory cats in the Mayan region, they often times can be found by the rivers playing and hunting in the water, hence the water lilies. Jaguars are sacred animals that represent feminine energy and are correlated with the cosmos, itâs spots symbolize the stars above. In Mayan tradition they are the Nahual for the symbol âIxâ.
