In honor of National Gardening Day, I wanted to share some pictures from our native garden. Hang on till the end and you’ll see what came before this blooming oasis.
In 2023, we lost both of our heritage oaks to an ice storm. We were devastated. The following fall, we hired @seedlings_atx to remove our grass, build a path, and prep the area for planting. I submitted our plans to @austin_water WaterWise Landscape Rebate Program because apparently the city will pay you a rebate to stop watering your lawn! I have lots of good things to say about that process.

We planted everything ourselves- spreading seeds and gratefully accepting transplants from neighbors. The garden has brought us so much joy and constant surprise. This year we even have a resident roadrunner.

A renovation with a modern twist.
I recently had the chance to photograph the beautiful San Antonio home of Rick and Carol Archer for @wsj . Rick, founding partner of @overlandpartners , and his wife Carol, spent seven years restoring and expanding the stone home, thoughtfully balancing its history with a modern vision for how they live today.

2025 was apparently the year of birding 🐦.
Most recently, it led us to th Rio Grande Valley, a part of Texas I’ve never really spent time exploring.
Unexpectedly lush landscapes, fantastic parks, beautiful birds, interesting characters, and an impressive amount of delicious Mexican food.
We’ll be back!

🌼Canyon Vista- The personal project by Heather Lyle of @native__knowledge features limestone and cedar sourced on-site, micro-prairies and native grasses that create a refuge for both wildlife and people.
Such a joy to capture these inspiring gardens.

GARDEN TOUR (part 1).
I recently had the chance to photograph five beautiful, privately owned gardens for the upcoming Travis County Open Day garden tour, hosted by @thegardenconservancy and @twistleafdesign . Saturday, November 8th from 10am-4pm.
It was such a treat to step into these spaces, each one so different, each full of personality and care. From lush native landscapes to creative spaces and a sustainable urban farm, every garden told it’s own story.

Yesterday was my Dad’s 80th birthday. He was kind, thoughtful, smart, generous and funny as hell. He died way too young, a little older than I am now. He’s missed by so many people. I wish he had gotten to meet his grandson, who we named after him.
Happy Birthday Dad.
He really is the sunshine of my life.
This Mother’s Day, I’m celebrating all those who protect, care for and nurture others- regardless of title or role.

At least one member of our household is completely bird-obsessed. For a recent high school project, George built five Screech-Owl boxes. One was donated to the @austinwildliferescue , two have been hung and two are still waiting for homes.
He learned so much throughout the process-and it was fun to watch- well, aside from from the power-tool-wielding atop the ladder (that part I covered my eyes for).
