📣 Our cover reveal for By The WAYE, Issue 02 is here, featuring “The Movement,” a stunning mixed-media painting by local Jersey City Heights artist Renelle White Buffalo (@buffaloroaming ).
Renelle (Sičáŋǧu Lakota, an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe) is a visual artist born and raised in rural South Dakota. Acrylic, collage, ribbon, and embroidery thread all come together in this powerful piece we’re so proud to feature on our cover. It’s a work that feels alive in every layer and the perfect opening note for this issue.
If you’re as blown away by this piece as we’ve been, you can see “The Movement” in person, along with several of Renelle’s other works, at our shop @surethings__ as part of our @jc_artandstudiotour art show, on view until November 2nd.
This project is funded in part by the public funds from the Jersey City Arts & Culture Trust Fund. @jcartandculture
Many thanks to Victoria Pokovba and @whitewall.art for including SITUATIONS in “8 Must-See Booths at NADA New York 2026”. The presentation brings together three artists: Corinne Jones with her wave-shaped paintings of undulating forms, Jerry the Marble Faun with hand-carved limestone sculptures populated by playful figures, and Renelle White Buffalo. They write about her work: “What we love: The tension between the raw, exposed canvas and the tactile embroidery gives the work a deeply physical presence, grounding abstraction in materiality and gesture.”
NADA is open for 3 more days! Back at the Starrett-Lehigh Building for New York City Art Week. ❤️
Final week to go see my solo exhibition “From What I Gathered” at @situations.us 👁️ Closing Saturday, May 16, 2026
