I’m gonna be a bit redundant here by briefly explaining again that what you’re about to watch, should you choose this mission, is an on the fly, iPhones shot video of my friends band Bubble at The Bowery Electric. We got the isolated audio tracks of each performer from the wonderful sound person. Had a great time, went home and started to mix and edit. Posted a couple of vids from the night but since we’ve completed a teaser consisting of many of the performed Bubble tunes. Kinda started out as an experiment and ended up making myself and the band pretty dern happy. Amazing what you can do these days with tech. All we needed was a band, a few iPhones and an SD card for the audio tracks to be put on from the board as the band played. Another pandemic-era song finally sees the light 🎸 "Open Up" was written in the middle of a romantic vortex — for someone who, it turns out, was never going to. But the real emotional center of this song was always me. Revived this week with live acoustic and vocal, harmonized electric guitar, baritone guitar courtesy of Mike Fornatale, and beautiful percussion and mixing from Tommy DeVito. Russ Alderson on bass, harmony assist from Rembert Block. It's got a train shuffle groove, a little Traveling Wilburys DNA, and a bass line that owes a debt to Bob Marley's Stir It Up. Sometimes the songs you wrote for someone else turn out to be about you all along. 🎶

Written during the pandemic while deep in a romance rooted in the quiet, waterlogged streets of Gowanus, "Springtime Dream" was born from morning walks across the canal... that particular kind of love that finds its footing in a world that's standing still.
The core of Bubble... drummer Tommy DeVito and bassist Russ Alderson... laid it down live at Tommy's home studio on Staten Island, turning what might have been a somber waltz into something supple and breathing. Keyboardist Charly Roth and accordionist Rembert Block then added their colors remotely: a texture that's somewhere between Montmartre and the outer reaches of the solar system.
The track sat quietly for four or five years before finding its moment here, in these weekly drops. Some songs need that time. This one was worth the wait.

Monday song drop: "Restart"
This one started as a pandemic recording with just me, Tommy DeVito on drums and Russ Alderson on bass. We never finished it, never brought it to the full band, never put it on the album. It just sat there.
I dusted it off, recut my vocal and guitar live, added some keys, synths and a little surf twang. Tommy added percussion. Russ's bass was already perfect.
Another unofficial OG @bubblenyc trio reunion.
Listening back I realized this is past me cheerleading present me toward a newer better timeline. Sometimes a song knows something before you do.
