May is Local History Month, and a couple of weeks ago our Monday Club shared old photos, stories and memories of BS3. Our Monday Clubbers brought in some fabulous photos from over the years, and shared stories about East Street, local life and how the area has changed over the years. One funny moment was when Margaret realised she’d met our Jackie from Food Club many years ago through the PTA. Margaret hadn’t realised until we spotted them both in a photo that brought it all back! Another of our Monday Club members, also called Margaret and now in her 90s, brought in a beautiful collection of photographs her daughter had made of her house over the years. Michael from @brokenstonemosaics joined us for his second visit. He spent time chatting with the group and looking through everyone’s photos as part of his work exploring memories of BS3.

Our hedges were starting to get a little out of control 🌿✂️ So, our brilliant facilities team, Tom, Carol, and Alfie, spent the day getting everything trimmed back and looking tidy again. You might actually be able to spot The Southville Centre from the road next time you walk past!

"We are all different, but there's something kind of fantastic about that, isn't there? - Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr Fox. It's the people and personalities that really make a place, and we are lucky to have the best bunch of humans working in our Nurseries. At BS3, we celebrate indivuality, and we love seeing how each of our team members bring their unique skills and passions to the table. This goes for our little friends, too. We may have had a little too much fun filming this reel (and imitating Bluey)! What songs would feature in the soundtrack to your day? #nurserylife #meettheteam #Bristol #bs3 #community

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week 💚 The theme this year is ‘action’, and even small actions can make a big difference to our wellbeing, like a gentle walk, some fresh air, a conversation with someone who understands, or simply spending time in nature. Taking time to slow down, get outside and be around other people can help us feel calmer, more connected and less alone. At BS3 Community Development, we run some groups that create space for exactly that. Our weekly Stroll & Chat walks, and our BS3 Buggies & Babies walks for Walkfest, offer a chance to get moving at a gentle pace while chatting, listening, and connecting with others in the community. Whether you come along for the conversation, the fresh air, or just to get out of the house for a bit, you’ll always be welcome! 🌿 Stroll & Chat Every Tuesday, 10.30am Meet outside the Tobacco Factory 👶 BS3 Buggies & Babies Walkfest Walks Tuesdays throughout May 10.30am Meet at the Southville Centre Friendly walks for parents, carers and little ones.

BS3 Community x Poppy Victoria May 💕 ✨ A very special painting! ✨ This is The Southville Centre, home to BS3 Community Development, a wonderful charity doing incredibly important work for people in Bedminster & Southville. This painting marks a beautiful full circle moment in the work we’ve done together. As some of you may remember, we raised money for BS3 Community at my exhibition @kaskwine back in February 🎨 And I’m thrilled to let you know that with this money BS3 Community is holding a wonderful event as part of Loneliness Awareness Week ✨ ☕️ Brew & Boogie, A Community Tea Dance 🗓️ Friday 12th June 2.30-5pm 📍 The Southville Centre, Milford Hall @bs3_community_development It will be an afternoon of nostalgic music, dancing and socialising for people aged 50+ 🎶 with live music from @bhvipers If you or someone you know would love this event, you can get tickets on Eventbrite or by calling 0117 923 1039 Events like this are so special and important for a community, and I’m really happy to be a part of it. THANK YOU to all of you who bought raffle tickets and to the local businesses who donated amazing prizes. You made it happen! 💕 Go support this wonderful charity! They have lots of lovely events like this and a gorgeous cafe you can visit. Poppy xxx

Whether you love to dance or prefer to sit back and enjoy the music, everyone is welcome! We’ll be joined by Bristol-based live band The Barrel House Vipers, who will be playing a mix of lively, nostalgic tunes, along with gentle dance instruction for those who’d like to join in. Click the link to watch them performing 'What a little moonlight can do' /watch?v=9uVQ739PSwY Music and movement can do wonders for wellbeing - lifting mood, sparking memories and creating opportunities to meet new people and enjoy a warm, friendly atmosphere. Tickets are just £5, thanks to the generosity of local artist, Poppy Victoria May, who raised funds through her recent art exhibition to support BS3 Community’s work and help make this event accessible to all. With last week being National Gardening Week, it was perfect timing for our delivery of plants from the Blaise Community Plant Donation Scheme. They donate plants to community projects like our Growing Together allotment and our nursery garden, supporting food growing, wellbeing, and stronger neighbourhoods. Our community team joined our BS3 Food Club Co-ordinator, Jackie, and the Growing Together volunteers at our allotment at Alderman Moore Allotments for a hands-on day of planting in the sunshine. After a productive day of teamwork, the allotment looks fabulous!
