Q1 is in the books:
Evita and I moved into our house, I got on set a handful of times, we enjoyed getting snowed in, AFFIX moved into an office space, I taught another course at Sawtooth, and had a few personal projects as well!
I'll be conducting my own performance review today, hope I do well 🤭
Earlier this year I got to work with my very talented friend Zack Strain (@zstrainj ) to update my branding.
While I'm still a photographer through and through, this past year has allowed me to expand my creative skillset on a handful of projects. Co-producing commercials, script writing for brand films, and some creative strategy work to name a few.
I've really enjoyed the challenge and growth and thought that my branding should represent this change.
Zack also created my business cards at Pinecrest Printery (@pinecrestprintery ) right here in Winston-Salem. The letterpress finish is beautiful and adds the extra element I was looking for ✨️

Last week I wrapped my first class as an instructor at @sawtoothschool ‼️
The light painting workshop was a huge success and also a ton of fun ✨️ Swipe through to see some of the wonderful images the participants made over our three sessions!
Light painting is one of those techniques where you're always learning/experimenting and I'm happy to say that I left with some new tricks up my sleeve.
A special thank you to @sawtoothschool and @amancalledhurst for the opportunity!
I’m teaching a Light Painting Workshop this October at @sawtoothschool
In this quick reel, I share a peek at what we’ll cover in class, including quick demo. Light painting was one of the first ways I really started to experiment with my camera and settings, and it helped spark my love for photography. I’m excited to help others explore and create in the same way!

This quick video gives you a glimpse behind the scenes from day one on set of the Quality Mart shoot with @affixstudio
A day on set is full of so many unique challenges that really keep you thinking on your feet. This day was no different, but our incredible team made adjustments seamlessly time and time again so that we could capture what we needed and then some.
I'll be giving the entire crew their flowers in the next and final post from this mini series, but for now I want to shout out @dylan.blackburn for capturing the BTS video and photos so that we could share these moments!
I teamed up with @affixstudio on Quality Mart’s reimaging campaign, and it was such a rewarding project to be part of. The concept "Your Store, Your Community" really captures the feeling of stopping into your local QM or discovering one on the road!
We dedicated a full day on set to capture stills that support the larger commercial rollout. From window signage to pump toppers, these images are starting to pop up across the state. Keep an eye out next time you fuel up or grab a snack. You might just spot some of the work in the wild 😉
Stay tuned for more posts about the rest of the project and what it was like to co-produce it!
In the meantime, be sure to check out the full campaign at affixstudios.com.

Some more BTS from the year so far 📢🔥
There are lots of exciting things to share in the coming weeks, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy a peak behind the curtain into where I've been lately (refrigerators, larger factory floors, construction sites, and likely a road near you if you're in WS lol ) 👀✨️
In my work with VAULT over the last four years, I've done my fair share of hand modeling to assist with my photography 😅😂
It's a great studio space, and it's been turned into countless other industry vignettes to suit our intended use cases.
Needless to say, I try to avoid being in front of the camera whenever I can. A sentiment I think a lot of fellow photographers resonate with.
Here's a fun series from 2023 of star athlete Antwan Hughes Jr. of Parkland High School.
This was from a larger project @affixstudio did for the City of Winston-Salem, highlighting prominent individuals from the city's eight wards.
It was a tight production day, but the incredibly talented crew made it a breeze. Our visit to Antwan was the third and final location of the day. I had about 10 minutes with him between takes and really enjoyed what we were able to capture!
Antwan was great to work with and has continued being an impressive athlete now at the University of South Carolina.

This photo/concept was the second shoot I did for my Portfolio course during my senior year as a Commercial Photography student at App State.
As you swipe, you'll see the base image, a composited product, the original concept edit, and slide five which was actually the final for many years. It was a photo I wasn't overly happy with when I made it the first time, it was underwhelming to what I had in my head and was just missing something. Originally, I was probably hoping what I thought was a fun concept would carry more of the weight from lacking execution.
That feeling never left. Last year, I opened up the file again and played some more with the edit to get the final thst you see on the sixth slide. I still don't love it, but I do LIKE it more.
I think it was more important to open and finish old work than it was to make something great. In opening an old file, I got to see how much I've grown as a creative since 2015. That's a good perspective to be reminded of.
Hi, everyone!
One of my personal goals for 2025 is to post more frequently and casually about my work—behind-the-scenes moments, project insights, and the stories behind certain photos.
I’m starting fresh with this account, so consider this my reintroduction! I’m Bryce Johnson, a freelance photographer and creative strategist based in Winston-Salem. Photography has been a passion of mine for quite a while now, and I'm happy to be able to call it my career. Swipe to see a "very cool" selfie I took back in 2011—proof that the love for this art form started early.
Here’s to a year of accountability, creativity, and plenty of posts as I fill this page back up 😉!
