Let the character exist before they speak. .......... 2. Frame Yourself Slightly Off-Center Standing slightly off-center often feels more cinematic. Left of frame usually feels more natural visually. Dead center works better for monologues or dominant roles. .......... 3. Keep Eyelines Close To The Lens Keep eyelines within six to eight inches of the camera. This keeps intimacy and connection with the viewer. Only turn your head if it’s motivated and deliberate. .......... 4. Be Alive In The Scene Being alive does not mean doing more. It means listening, thinking, breathing, and responding naturally. Play the circumstances truthfully instead of “acting.” .......... 5. Don’t Chase Emotion Emotion is often stronger when it sits underneath the surface. Let us sense the feeling rather than forcing it outward. Play the subtext and make subtle, specific choices. .......... 6. Find The Major Beat Every scene has a key emotional turning point. That is usually what casting directors are testing. Focus your performance around that moment. .......... 7. Don’t Neglect Sound Your voice is half the performance. Breath, tone, pacing, and clarity all matter on camera.
