A 50mm 1.8 lens is what I first started with and it’s been accepted as approximately what the human eye naturally sees. It’s what I recommend everyone start their photography journey with not only for its versatility but also its affordability of around $200.
The GMaster 50mm 1.2 is 11x the price ($2,200) and I was curious if it was truly THAT much better...so I rented one to capture Reflections NYE 2026 | Warehouse Arts District.
The difference is nearly literally night and day. The ability to drop the aperture allows you to raise your shutter high enough to capture crisp images in the dark that would otherwise have motion blur from either the subject or your hand. The glass quality is absurd and autofocus was quick and accurate.
My wallet wishes I hated it but alas, I’m in love with a 50 all over again 😍
Beth had a great time last weekend exploring the custom vans like this one from @_nanavans @ @peacelovevans
It’s always nice when we have a setup to safely accommodate her 🐶
