Better late than never? I won’t talk about the race here. @britcooper90 wrote a nice article in @triathlonmagazine if you want some of that. And if you’re a numbers person, you can check out my blog post on @mesa -endurance. [both are linked—in-bio] The benefit of waiting this long is that I have had some time and distance to reflect on the journey and the feels. This idea of finishing on the podium at the Ironman World Championship has been in my head for quite a long time. So I can’t really look back on the day without thinking about the years and years that preceded it. And for me that comes with some big questions I’ve often asked myself. What does it all mean? What’s it for? Why do it? I started with a goal, but it ended up being about the experiences along the way. My goal(s) set a whole series of things in motion that I never could have imagined when the seed was first planted. It’s growth. You grow in obvious ways, but also in ways that you don’t expect. Life doesn’t stop because we race. And training through the highs and lows of life has its own meaning. There’s a relationship between the hours you spend training and what’s going on in your life. Training got me through dark times. It gave me peace to help take on tough life challenges. It gave me hours to reflect. It afforded me opportunities to celebrate being alive in the simplest ways… with the sun rising, the wind in my face and the company of friends. I wouldn’t be who I am or have gone through everything I’ve gone through the way I did without this purpose as my ally. It’s people. Without doubt, one of the most meaningful things about pursuing a big goal (nearly) whole hearted, is that that energy is bound to bring like-minded people into your life. People who cheer you and give you energy and people you cheer and give your energy to. People you learn from and people who you can teach. People who give you their love and people you fall in love with. This community is just something else. So I’d encourage you to do the things that scare you a bit, push your limits, and set you on a journey no one knows will take you.

Bad decisions lead to great stories. A quick trip to Barcelona > Girona > Barcelona. Dunno if this counts as a bad decision, but definitely good stories and memories.

July. All the things. All the highs, lows, and highs. 3 races, @mesa.endurance bootcamp, working on @torontotriathlonfestival and @run10kto day job, family and bae. Balance is never perfect. Always a work in progress. Sometimes we say yes to too much, sometimes we say yes to the wrong things. But don’t quit. Restart. Fall down 10 times, get up 11. Finally went sub 16 @revandrun5000 . On a night I almost didn’t race from mental exhaustion. Somehow that race is a metaphor for life. Start anyway. Then put one foot in front of the other. Don’t think about the outcome just stay present and do your best in the now. Somewhere between zero f’s and f* it let’s go for it. It’s a balance between knowing where you want to be but leaving it behind and committing to now. It doesn’t always work out, and that’s okay. But if you put yourself out there enough times with the right mindset, magic can happen. 🦄

Life gets crazy busy sometimes and it’s hard to slow down and appreciate things. You race or go someplace and jump right back into a million things when you get home. So here’s an appreciation post from 70.3 MT. And someday you’ll get a bunch of “last six months of pics I paid for and have done nothing with” posts. Appreciation: 1. Appreciation for a healthy body that still allows me to do this stuff on repeat. 2. Appreciation for having been taught early in life how to love moving, being outside, testing limits. 3. Appreciation that I’ve learned enough over 35+ years that I have the privilege of sharing that knowledge and helping others. 4. Appreciation for the community, friends and relationships I have made directly from doing this crazy shit. 5. Appreciation for how going outside your comfort zone repeatedly shapes you and helps you grow. Proud human: 1. It’s been a dream to build a community. Seeing @mesa.endurance kits out on the race course was incredible. Gotta say, they look too. 2. @alexpetersen96 , @magickatt , @conradchristine - massive congratulations to your 1st 70,3 3. F*CK. I finally got a PB in the swim again. Perseverance pays. 4. Seeing GF’s face when she was given AWA status at sign in! Thanks: I can’t possible thank enough people. But a few mentions for some brands that believe in what I’m doing and building. @jp_at_brownssports from @brownssports thanks for all your help and support for me and the community. @synergywetsuits first race in the new wetsuit was a dream. @tocyclingcollective for the trisuits and all the things to come. And a thank you to @iialina who gets me out the door when neither of us want to and helps my juggle my too many eggs in too many baskets. Where did I find you again? The numbers: 4:26 total time 33:44 swim 2:29 bike (216W avg) 1:18 run 1st M50-54 16th OA Until next time!

Starting a little series on everything that’s going into my prep for the 2025 Ironman World Championships in Nice France 🇫🇷. Starting with the bike. I loved my Parlee (which I’ll be selling shortly), but I wanted something that would be more optimized for the tough course at Nice. Working with @jp_at_brownssports to optimize the setup and fit to balance comfort, weight and aerodynamics. We chose the @argon18bike E-119 tri for combo of fit flexibility, weight and handling and aerodynamics. The fit isn’t a one and done, but will be an iterative process over the first half of the year. This is the first position I’ll get used to and test (a more traditional IM distance setup) and then we’re going to try bringing the front up and out (more of the recent trend with pros). We’ll test power, comfort and play around with the @notio.ai for some testing and checking interplay between helmet selection, head / hand position etc. I’ll then try these positions out in races (70.3 Tremblant and maybe Muskoka). Possibly trying one position in each. Then the final few months will be fine tuning things like bottle placement etc. What else do you wanna know about my prep? AMA in comments! #imwc #imtraining #50

Highs, lows, agony, ecstasy, community, crowds, hospitality… New York City Marathon had it all. A perfect day to finish up a long and epic season. Let me start with a special thank you to @newbalancerunning for including me in your hospitality experience!!! You treated us like kings and queens. Run your way! 🤘 And thank you @blacktoerunning and for your support and belief in me as a coach and helping build on the success of the club. This has been a fulfilling journey beyond anything I imagined. #bt2nyc My NYCM story is as much about the experiences of the people I was here with as it was about my own run. For me, it was a great way to cap off running the three fall majors back to back. For the athletes I coach there was agony and ecstasy. Days that started strong and finished tough. Days that started awful and ended spectacular. It helps me zoom out and appreciate that the hardest challenges are also the most rewarding. And in the end sharing all of it with your people is what makes it meaningful. 2024 was a hell of a year. I can’t wait for to live the highs, lows again in 2025. Also - unpopular opinion… Boston is harder!
