We are now open! Uncover Brora’s Heritage Wednesday to Sunday 9am -5pm A huge thanks to @we_makethingshappen for designing our spaces and permanent exhibitions, to @evm.scotland for building & installing and to @lightlywest for making mounts for our artefacts. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community members and volunteers who have helped us build up our collections, shared stories and carried out research. Thanks also to all of our funders! @venture_north @highland_museums @discoverbrora #brora #discoverbrora #sutherland #nc500

Thursday 26 February 2026 is Say A Gaelic Phrase Day. This is an initiative to encourage people to try speaking Gaelic, or to use the Gaelic that they have! Our phrase is “ Cha tuit mòin à cliabh falaimh” meaning Peat will not fall out of an empty creel. #LàAbairtNaGaidhlig #SayAGaelicPhraseDay #SeachdainNaGaidhlig #WorldGaelicWeek @sngaidhlig @gaelicinsutherland

It’s Seachdain na Gaidhlig / World Gaelic Week and we are taking part by sharing some Gaelic words and phrases heard in our local community. “She/ He’s just a wee ‘speireag’ of a thing”. Describing someone who’s little and scrawny. A speireag is a sparrow! #Brura #cleachdi #WorldGaelicWeek @sngaidhlig @cleachdi @gaelicinsutherland

It’s Seachdain na Gàidhlig / World Gaelic Week and we are taking part by sharing some Gaelic words and phrases heard in our local community. What’s the scoom? A great way to find out local gossip! The literal translation is “foam”, how did we get from foam to gossip? A little drama bubbling on the waves? #Brura #cleachdi #WorldGaelicWeek @sngaidhlig @gaelicinsutherland @highland_museums

It’s #SeachdainNaGàidhlig / World Gaelic Week and we are taking part by sharing some Gaelic words and phrases heard in our local community. Many of these were documented by Professor Nancy Dorian who studied the East Sutherland Gaelic Dialect spoken in the fishing communities of Brora, Golspie and Embo. Have you ever had Slisteagan for your dinner? This popular dish uses left over tatties that are mashed, sliced then fried. @sngaidhlig @gaelicinsutherland @cleachdi #brura #cleachdi #worldgaelicweek #seachdainnagàidhlig2026
