i’m so excited to be playing at cornerstone music cafe next weekend as part of their Indigenous artist showcase!
Bring your loose pants to this one cause we eatin good🤌
If you don’t know, I was lucky enough to be a student in an 8 month long songwriting program called Write On! The Songwriting Experience, where I got to be mentored and learn from industry experts.
Write on has been a pivotal point for my music career and motivation to keep following the passion I’ve had since I was a little girl. As a creative, it’s natural to fall in and out of love with your medium, especially as a young person, navigating growing up and experiencing the world through changing eyes. I fell into a slump for years where I felt nothing but pessimistic and overwhelmed by the ever changing landscape of the music industry but Write On reignited my passion.
Throughout the past 8 months, I have significantly improved my performance anxiety, written songs I am proud of, learned to play guitar, perform and open up for incredibly talented musicians and most importantly, I started taking myself seriously. To the point where I see a clear path forward in pursuing music and god I’m just so excited for it.
It is so special to be in a room full of talented singers, songwriters, performers, and musicians. I’ve made connections with people I hope to know forever.
Thank you Pip and Nancy for all you do, creating opportunities for emerging artists, curating workshops to teach about industry stuff that we would never know about otherwise and always being the biggest support system in the room.
I’ve been sitting on a song (like I’m a bird)
that I recorded this winter and will be
releasing it on May 8th, that’s next Friday!!
I am excited for this next chapter of sharing my fun and awesome creative endeavours.
My time in University became more than just a place for education but a space where I truly began to understand who I am, where I come from, and how Indigenous ways of knowing have always lived within me.
I came to understand the responsibility I carry not only to bring my culture into every space I occupy, but to help clear the path and advocate for those who come after me. I walk forward with pride, knowing I am part of something larger, and that every step I take makes more room for others to follow.
