Was the SHIEN protest a success? Hard to say, but what protest ever is? The goal of today was to get people thinking about their consumption , start conversations about waste and corporate responsibility and let @metropolisatmet and SHIEN know that the pop-up was not welcomed with open arms.
There are a million things wrong in this world and so many issues can feel out of reach for an individual who wants to make a difference. Clothing is one of those rare sectors where each person holds more agency. You have the individual ability to not support businesses that don’t care about you, their workers, or the planet. It was sad to see so many people lined up for a company that couldn’t give less of a shit about them or their health. 😣
Yes, we want to shame SHIEN because they deserve to feel shame. However, I don’t want to shame people for not knowing something, and I strongly believe that perfectionism is the death of activism. There is always a chance to change and always a chance to grow and learn, hopefully some people felt that yesterday. ❣️
