Curveball week here in Minneapolis as @training_group_mn was given creative assignment: find your hour, build your small group, and reconnect on Tuesday next week. Our hour came to life this evening in a halfpipe shaped double hill the size of a city block with a “kettlebell kitchen” in the center. Lucky to have the story captured by @andrewheuss who got his hr in ahead of time. #minneapolis #minnesota
I’m excited to get to The Running Event (TRE) in San Antonio this week to host my final stunt of the year, a single hour aimed at rallying the listeners and storytellers to connect and grow. If you or any other run industry folks are around for TRE, please save 4:30-5:30 on Wednesday at the main entrance of the convention center for an unforgettable hour together. Link in bio for philosophy and info for “Your Life Story; in 60 seconds.” I hope to see you Wednesday.
This morning, with the annual November Project summit taking place here in Minneapolis, I got to bring my eight-year-old son, Lumi, along to experience the magic firsthand. Watching him watch guest leaders Ben and Natalie give announcements, alongside Sarah and the organizing crew laying out the plans for the weekend ahead, was pretty special.
We talk so much in parenting conversations about the importance of “modeling,” and I think one of the most underrated parts of this entire November Project experiment has always been the families who bring their kids along to workouts and events. These kids, with wide-open eyes, get to witness adults running, jumping, supporting, playing, laughing, screaming, painting shirts, sweating, hugging, racing, and fully showing up for one another.
I had a great childhood and grew up in a wonderful community, but I honestly don’t think I was ever around this many joyful, wacky, expressive adults all at once. There’s something deeply powerful about kids seeing grown-ups live with this much energy, vulnerability, and connection.
Thank you to everyone who made this morning happen. I’m incredibly proud of this strong organization and the way it continues building healthier, more connected lives and communities.
Music: This particular song has significance more than just the Minneapolis record label, rapper, and producer behind Atmosphere. At NP SUMMIT 1.0 in 2013, during a dark and frozen moment as all 7 cities of Co-Leaders were starting our run commute back to the hotel after the NP Edmonton workout, this song began to boom out of the reverse fanny pack on Laura Green. It’ll forever be etched in my brain there in YEG as summit was proving to be a vital investment of time and money used to connect global leaders to one another. When this same song “Puppets” came on during the workout this morning it was trippy and cosmic in all the most perfect/therapeutic ways.
