When we first married, we didn’t write our own vows and we didn’t do a first look. We were simply focused on saying “I Do.” So this time, we took months to plan a weekend just for us💕
Libby redesigned her wedding dress, we took intentional time to write our vows, and arranged our wedding memorabilia for a flat lay since we never had one before😅 and there in the freezing cold we remembered the emotions we felt right before committing to a lifetime💋
We don’t have much marriage advice to offer aside from this: ignore the haters. Over the past 10 years, we’ve been told our marriage will fail at least half a dozen times. We’ve been called lucky, felons, and yes, even pirates by people who once were close friends, but we always stood for each other against all odds. So our advice? Ignore the haters and press onward🏴☠️

Libby: “We could do weddings better than this.”
Neither of us can remember which wedding we were at but we both felt it in our gut. So we started from scratch in Lancaster, PA. No portfolio. No connections. One camera.
For the next 5 years, we followed three rules.
Rule 1: Let your lifestyle fund your vision.
Most new wedding businesses fail because overhead grows faster than revenue. We went the opposite direction. We sold everything, became minimalists, and when rent was the last thing standing between us and growth we bought a short bus and took our business on the road. We shot weddings in new cities, built a diverse portfolio fast, and kept every dollar working toward the next camera and the next client. Sacrifice early and your business compounds later.
Rule 2: Be the calmest person in the room.
Weddings are emotional. There are family dynamics, timeline pressure, and years of expectation all happening at once. We made a commitment early on to never add to that energy. We both grew up in emotionally heightened homes and learned young how to stay grounded when the people around you are not. That skill follows us into every single wedding day we shoot and it is something our couples feel before they ever see their gallery.
Rule 3: Book from confidence not desperation.
Engaged couples are already fielding dozens of vendor pitches and feeling the pressure of every decision. The last thing they need is a photographer or videographer who makes them feel guilty for not booking immediately. We don’t chase clients. We showed up, shared our work, and trusted that the right couples would feel it. And they did. Your ideal client is out there actively looking for someone who knows their worth and it shows in every interaction before the contract is even signed. In short, you’re clients are only as cool as you know you are🏴☠️🥀✨🤘🏻
The result? I think it speaks for itself🏴☠️💋
