A message to the youth chasing dreams and living fast, especially those thinking of quitting school to get ahead.
I used to believe leaving school would help me move faster. In reality, it slowed me down later on. I wish I had listened more to the voices around me that told me to be patient and do the right thing.
Today, I find myself without a university degree or bachelor’s. I quit after my second year because I felt I was already doing what I was studying and believed the paper would not mean much in the future. Truth is, it does. Sometimes it means access, credibility, or simply a few more bucks in your bank account.
I do not regret my journey. The day I quit school, I started my journey and have been holding it down since. I am proud of what I have built. But the moral is not to rush life. That paper is a form of security.
I have faced frustrating moments being more than qualified but not fitting the criteria because I did not own that degree. I dropped out of Event and Project Management, yet I have worked on more events than many who hold that paper.
It took hard work and still does. I am at peace with my choices, but my advice to the youth is simple. Secure the degree, then go do whatever you want with your life.
