🎤 Meet the Speaker: Binki Taylor Founder | The Brixton Project We’re excited to welcome Binki Taylor to our next NUFF Sed! Event: Whose Safety, Whose Standards? Reclaiming Ethical Practice “Ethics need to be grounded in meaning and guided by lived experience rather than motivated by a need to protect an institution as it often feels” Binki is the founder of The Brixton Project, a community placemaking organisation using creativity to empower local people to shape the cultural and economic future of where they live and work. As a coach-mentor, creative producer, and community activator, she works to centre community knowledge, culture and heritage in how places evolve. Her work creates accessible, people-first platforms that bring communities and stakeholders together - building shared understanding while navigating different needs, priorities and power dynamics. In this conversation, we’ll explore: • Who defines safety and ethical standards in community work • Why lived experience must shape ethical practice • The role of creativity in community engagement and placemaking • Building inclusive, people-first approaches to decision-making 📅 Thursday, 30th April 2026 – 5:00–8:00 PM 📍 The Old Laundry, Stockwell 🎓 CPD accredited (3 points) 👉 BOOK YOUR FREE TICKET : IN BIO⬆️ 📺 You can also catch recordings of previous sessions via our YouTube channel. /channel/UCsfYWGOgRmrIdfsnCKBcWCg

“International House is a platform for Brixton to be seen in many different contexts.” 🔦 Another highlight from our impact video was when we spoke to Binki Taylor, founding partner of the @brixtonproject , a participatory placemaking organisation that commissions creative and cultural programming to increase access, strengthen communities, and support inclusive place-based development. Since the release of the video in 2024, The Brixton Project have graduated from our community initiatives floor to having their own dedicated hub at International house, which has been the home to many important community discussions, projects and events. They have brought creatives and cultural institutions together with residents, businesses, academics, funders, and policy makers to address intersecting social, economic, and environmental challenges — from the cost of living to the impact of redevelopment and climate change on local people. 📣 The VCS team @lambeth_council has commissioned a new service of support for the VCS (Voluntary Community Sector) to provide accessible help, advice and advocacy. Lambeth’s VCS Team work in partnership with this support service to provide a joined-up support offer for local organisations. 🌟 The Brixton Project is proud to be providing Leadership and Advocacy support for Lambeth’s VCS. We aim to represent the diverse and dynamic breadth of our VCS in policy and decision-making across Lambeth and the UK. We are launching a VCS Leadership Circle who will meet quarterly to discuss the needs, challenges, and aspirations of the local people they represent in order to forge a strong and cohesive sector with equity and justice at its heart. Interested in joining? Nominate yourself, or an organisation you know, to help represent the VCS in Lambeth and shape our offer 🤝 Sign up to our Leadership and Advocacy Newsletter to hear more about our support services, including a programme of VCS Spotlight Events and Leadership Mentoring in 2026 🏅 🧩 We want to ensure the VCS is visible and connected. No matter how big or small your organisation is, sign up to our VCS Ecosystem to see how your ways of working can support, or be supported by, peers in the borough. The digital platform provided by @oneplanet.life offers a space to share knowledge, capacity and resource whilst highlighting the gaps useful for funders and decision makers. All links in our bio 🔗 Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions 👉 [email protected] We are excited to be delivering this service alongside @high_treescdt and @integrateagencycic who are offering capacity building and fundraising support respectively.

🌷 The CRX Community Meal 🍜 🥰 On the final day of the CRX we called upon artist @_kim.chin and @devorahblock from @if_do to help us explore how culture shapes places, can tell the story of communities past and present, and be used as a tool for shaping identity and building belonging. Through guided creative exercises, we shared experiences and memories of Brixton Station Road over food and drink provided by (our faves) Julie Sorrel and Mama P. Weaving our conversation onto material patches, collaged with remnants of Brixton Market, the streets outside and sorrel stains (🤭), we produced our own ‘table-cloth’ documenting the area as it was, as is, and what we hope it will become. Over the coming months @_kim.chin will be working with us to finalise the piece, stitching-in the words of @poeticunity Mya Onwugbonu, who wrapped up the meal with a beautiful spoken-word performance reflecting the day’s communal dialogue ✨ We look forward to sharing it with you in the New Year. @brixtonproject @impactonurbanhealth @rewired.earth @london_doughnut

✨ CRX Wrap-Up! ♻️ Wow, what an amazing three days Community Research Exchange’ing, with 35 community orgs, creatives, and industry professionals in dialogue with over 100 local people. Thank you to everyone who participated to discuss the importance of ‘place’ in the context of climate, community wealth, and culture. With the threat of unprecedented regeneration upon Brixton, it was motivating to hear from people who have long been, and will continue to, keep hold of this place for local people ✊ We will be sharing insights and action in a multitude of creative ways (of course) over the next few months so keep an eye out! 🥳 A special shout out to @takenyakholness for these beautiful photographs 💞 The Community Research Exchange was made possible thanks to @impactonurbanhealth @rewired.earth and @london_doughnut 🍩

📸 Join us on Saturday 22 November 12 - 3pm for the launch of Brixton’s ‘Community Portrait’✨ Over the past few months we have been working with the incredible @mila_guevra @k111nn @katiannalayna from @advocacyacademy to create a ‘Community Portrait’ of Brixton as part of our ‘Building Our Common Future’ series with @london_doughnut . Through interviews, workshops, and just wondering through the streets, they have curated a zine which provides “a visual language that connects the arts and their power of influence within Brixton”. Sparking conversations between Brixtonians and their neighbours, the trio have unearthed concerns the community want to address together, and affirmed the ways locals are already addressing current need in the face of adversity. In their effort to make Brixton “a safe and just place for all” the zine is a testament to “artists and organisations that work in resistance to all the different elements of economic and social oppression”. Choosing to take an archival approach, the zine is a collage of photographs, written notes and illustrations. It is a beautiful snapshot of Brixton at this time - and what it could become in the future. Snapshots include @nualoe__ @kshawade @notsergioh @bettypearlm @rapportfestival @bureau_of_silly_ideas and @incredibleediblelambeth Special thank to @christopher.gerhardt and @good_studio_riso who have supported our young creatives to produce the zine. Join us at the CRX Community Meal for the launch of the zine along with an exhibition of curated pages. Stick around for a facilitated conversation over lunch with @if_do and creative activity by @_kim.chin , exploring memories and experiences of Brixton Station Road as it faces wide-scale redevelopment. 🔗 Tickets via link in our bio. @brixtonproject @london_doughnut @impactonurbanhealth

👉 The Brixton Project is excited to announce that the Community Research Exchange is back for 2025, with a new programme investigating place through the lenses of climate, community wealth and culture. Join us for three days of talks, workshops, and performances which explore the impact of the climate crisis on our neighbourhoods, how we can build – and keep – wealth within local communities, and the role of culture in forging identity and belonging. 🌿🌇🎨 With plans well underway to redevelop Brixton Station Road, the once beating heart of our community, we will pay particular focus to the impact of building, moving, and changing spaces on local people and their environment. From International House to Valentia Place and beyond, we will ground our discussions in-place, exploring alternative plans for existing communities than those handed down from developers and decision makers. In partnership with @impactonurbanhealth , the Community Research Exchange (CRX) brings together residents, community organisations and creative practitioners together with academics, funders and governing bodies to explore the needs, wants, and desires of local people. Redefining what it means to ‘engage’ communities, the CRX shifts top-down narratives absent of lived experience to a vehicle for social change powered from the ground. 🔗 Free tickets via the link in our bio! @brixtonproject @impactonurbanhealth @london_doughnut @doughnuteconomics
