You do not have to be good.
This is a short video I created together with @brittfusers , during the last months of 2023.
Mary Oliverās poem āWild Geeseā sparked the initial motivation for creating this project. It is one of my favourite poems, for reasons I canāt really explain as well as Iād want to. All I can say is that her words make me feel really still and connected. They make me feel like I embody something that is both bigger and smaller than the person I am most of the time, in the best way possible.
One evening I came across a video of Mary Oliver reciting the poem and decided to combine the audio with a song that I kept returning to. The poem reminded me of Bleachersā āWhatād I Do With All This Faithā, which opens with this beautiful, organic wind section. I was amazed by the combination of the two, and immediately texted Britt the thing I just created, paired with a voice message in which I eagerly explained that I wanted to create something, a video to be precise, with the audio as base.
Britt responded enthusiastically and immediately came up with the idea of performing a dance for the video. We met up to share ideas and to create a plan. Brittās dance (which is fully improvised by the way) would form the visual centre of the video, while the nature near Nijmegen would provide the perfect atmosphere for our vision. We shot the whole video over the course of one day, and returned with a substantial amount of material, which I edited together to one final product.
The whole video can be viewed above, but itās also possible to watch it on YouTube or Vimeo in higher quality. See the link in my bio.
