The British Puppet Guilds Annual General Meeting - Saturday 16th May 2026 - From 1pm on Zoom
We’re thrilled to welcome two fantastic guest speakers this year, each ready to share their craft, creativity, and real-world experience in puppetry and puppet building.
Hugh Purves (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker/The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance/Dodge’s Pup School) kicks off the AGM. Hugh is an exceptional puppeteer and puppet maker whose work spans theatre, film, and television. From design and build, to liaising with production teams, to bringing characters to life on camera, he’s experienced every step of the process—and he’s excited to share what it really takes.
Dave Showler (Little Shop of Horrors/The Muppet Christmas Carol/Labyrinth) is a highly accomplished puppeteer with a wealth of experience across many beloved Jim Henson productions. Dave also builds his own puppets and can’t wait to share his process—along with practical, confidence-boosting tips—to help our members create puppets of their own.

Great to be at the Covent Garden Puppet Festival @britishpuppetguild with @puppetsoup performing ‘Azul’ - a miniature show for a single viewer looking into an old style camera, performed with my music. And to meet @daisyjordan_art and @gabrielacespedes5 with their beautiful small shows, part of a wonderful, intimate Lambe Lambe theatre tradition from Brazil. A really buzzy afternoon - happy to hold the fort as they all went to grab some lunch 😁
