Coming up in June at Bristol Central Library!
We are very excited to introduce - Lost places of Bristol / an exhibition by artist Jane Warring.
The Lost Places of Bristol exhibition will include a selection of 19th Century illustrations by Samuel Loxton chosen from the Central Library collection showing places and buildings that no longer exist in Bristol, their loss due to things such as war damage, planning decisions, fire, or a changing culture. The original Loxton illustrations will be displayed alongside newspaper cuttings and ephemera also from the Central Library collections. Some of the lost views will be contrasted with photographs, taken by artist and MA Fine Art student Jane Warring, of the same locations today. The Loxton illustrations will be digitally combined by the artist with the photographic images to create a collage and produced using the 19th Century Cyanotype process to make a series of 21st Century original prints. These will be displayed alongside the original Loxtons as a reflection of the changing urban environment in Bristol over the past 150 years.
On Monday 1 June, Jane will be upstairs at Bristol Central Library all day to welcome visitors, answer questions and talk about her photographs and prints - do drop in and say hi! #bristolart #ThingsToDoInBristol

📚🌿 Staff at Henleaze Library have made this display to promote Bristol Nature Book Club 🌿📚
We’re really looking forward to our next meet‑up, where we’ll be chatting about Late Light by award-winning Bristol nature writer Michael Malay ✨🐦
🗓 Wednesday 27 May
⏰ 5:30–6:30pm
📍 Henleaze Library
Whether you’ve finished the book, dipped into a few chapters, or just fancy coming along to listen and chat, everyone is very welcome 💚 Come and share thoughts, ideas, and a love of books and the natural world 📚🌍💬
📖🌙 About the book:
Late Light is the story of Michael Malay's own journey, an Indonesian Australian making a home for himself in England and finding strange parallels between his life and the lives of the animals he examines. Mixing natural history with memoir, this book explores the mystery of our animal neighbours, in all their richness and variety. It is about the wonder these animals inspired in our ancestors, the hope they inspire in us, and the joy they might still hold for our children. 🍃
