The 5th Niger Delta Alternative Convergence (NDAC) held 14th May 2026. The theme is Towards Decommissioning And Accountability In The Niger Delta. Several Oil Wells in the Niger Delta are out of service but they are still polluting the environment. The Ororo Well in OML 95 has been spilling and burning for 6 years now, nothing has been done to stop it. The Oil Wells in Otuabagi have been abandoned since 1975 without being decommissioned. There’s need for a comprehensive environmental audit, remediation of polluted sites, decommissioning of obsolete facilities and the implementation of policies that support community resilience.
Delegates at Convergence included civil society organizations, traditional rulers, academia, religious leaders and community members.
NDAC is an initiative of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) with We The People, KEBETKACHE Women, Oilwatch Africa, CAPPA, Peace Point (PPDF) and Policy Alert as partners.

Breakfast Leadership Retreat for Women Leaders in Non-Profit Organizations in Rivers State.
Theme: Women Elevate
Sub-theme: Women Leading with purpose and clarity
Convener: Collective Pathways
Imagine waking up every day to lead, not just to meet targets, not just to hold a title, but to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Today, the most impactful leaders are not those with the loudest voices or the highest positions, but those driven by a clear sense of purpose.
As leadership expert, Simeon Sinek famously said, “people don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it”. So, the question is, why do you lead?
To lead with purpose matters now, more than ever and each and every one of us can become purpose-driven leaders in our communities and organisations.
Leading with purpose requires more than intention; it demands deliberate action to confront biases and foster inclusive, impactful leadership.
Biases, if left unaddressed can undermine even the most well-intentioned leaders.
However, through self-awareness, inclusive practices, and commitment to ethical leadership, these barriers can be overcome.
Purpose-driven leaders are not only defined by what they achieve but by how they achieve it ensuring that their leadership creates lasting, equitable, and meaningful impact.
In a rapidly changing world, such leadership is not optional; it is essential.
Kebetkache in collaboration with Roots of Peace (US) and Education Global (Belgium) organized a parallel event at the CSW70 on Grassroots Women and Girls Speaking Up for Peace on March 18, 2026.
The workshop promoted the grassroots movements including the participants as the United Nations.
The workshop launched the grassroots You’nited Nations and created opportunity for participants to say what they can do to promote peace in the world.
Part of the initiatives suggested including inserting peace in school's curriculum, providing peace and value education, giving voice to under-represented populations, provide resources to address teen suicide, peer counseling, taking action against cyber bullying.
I am participating in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) @UN Headquarters in New York. A parallel event on centering gender in just energy transition raised questions about who owns energy, who takes decisions on energy and who benefits?
Climate and energy programs often fail to recognize the disproportionate impacts on women and men and so do not address the concerns and needs of women. Just energy transition processes must include women. Women often face energy poverty and are constantly excluded from environmental decision-making processes.
There's a need for gender responsive policies and programs that will address energy poverty and equitable participation of men, women and other vulnerable populations in energy transition. Just energy transition without gender justice can never be just. Energy transition is about power relations not just about transition. Women must be included in the renewable energy. Policies must ensure women active participation in the energy industry.
