Judging a street battle is one of the hardest roles in the culture and often the most misunderstood. Our WHY WE MOVE 2v2 judges weren’t there to pick favourites, reward tricks, or judge who the crowd loved most. They were there to hold the integrity of Hip Hop. Judging street battles means: 🎵 Listening to how dancers respond to the music in real time 👀 Reading foundations, groove, bounce, and timing 🦄 Recognising originality, intention, and authenticity 🧠 Understanding battle etiquette, presence, and strategy 🔥 Making split-second decisions with no replays, no slow-mo, no discussion. All while being watched, judged, and sometimes questioned by the crowd. It takes experience, knowledge of the culture, emotional neutrality, and the courage to stand by decisions that won’t always be popular but are rooted in truth and respect for the dance. So today we give respect to our judges for carrying that responsibility with clarity, fairness, and deep cultural understanding. Last night at @slandaustralia WHY WE MOVE dance battle the Top 16 showed up with heart, hunger and serious heat. Every round was a reminder that dance is more than movement its expression, connection, and courage in real time. 🔥 Huge respect to every dancer who stepped in and gave us their truth.
