We’re back at St Anne’s on Friday 22nd May for our final screening of the season, watching an underrated coming of age gem ‘Mermaids’ 🧜‍♀️ starring our fair ladies Cher (Mrs Flax), Winona Ryder (Charlotte) and a wee baby Christina Ricci (Katie). Mermaids is both a messy and moving portrayal of the transition from girlhood to womanhood, with some heavy-hitting teenage-girl crises and at the heart of it all, a devotedly complex relationship between a mother and her daughter. There’s a lot to unpack with this film and we have much to celebrate as we kick of our Summer break so stick around after the film to enjoy DIY cocktails, snacks, tunes and chats with the Friendly Neighbourhood Film Club!🍹🎵👯‍♀️🗣️🫶❣️ Tickets in bio! “Your classes have completely changed how I experience yoga. I feel stronger, calmer & much more aware of my body in everyday life, not just in class.” YOGA FOUNDATIONS WORKSHOP Sat 16 May, 10am–12:30pm St Anne’s House, Bristol This 2.5hr workshop is a chance to slow things down & properly explore the foundations of standing postures & balance, particularly the Warrior poses. We’ll work with: • feet & foundations • balance • breathing within postures • how the body organises itself to stand • alignment that actually makes sense Space to ask questions, repeat things, rest & learn gradually rather than rushing through shapes. Suitable for beginners, returners, or anyone wanting to deepen foundations. Tea & snacks afterwards. Use code READY for £5 off. The next 6-week Yoga Foundations Course also begins Wed 10 June, 6–7pm. @bristolyogafestival Booking links in BIO #YogaFoundations #YogaForBeginners #BristolYoga #YogaWorkshop #StandingPostures #WarriorPoses #EmbodiedPractice #BalancePractice #Breathwork #Meditation #AccessibleYoga #BeginnerYoga #YogaTeacher #StAnnesHouse #BristolEvents #SlowYoga #MindfulMovement #GroundedYoga #YogaInBristol #KatieDespres

We're so excited to welcome Beth Roberts to St Anne's House ✨ Beth joins us as curatorial resident this spring – in partnership with @uwebristol MA Fine Art Curating –working with BRICKS from April to June. Her background in Human Geography, with a focus on socio-cultural dynamics, informs her practice alongside her love of connecting with people, making art, and running creative events. She's passionate about breaking down traditional hierarchies within art spaces and believes art has the power to create positive change within communities. Her main project is to develop a community-centred exhibition – hopefully this August and the first of many annual events. Inspired by ideas from the St Anne's House Action Group, the local community would be at the heart of every stage. To find out more about Beth's project and practice, keep an eye out for our blog post coming soon — or get in touch with her directly at [email protected] / @brobs__curating #BRICKSBristol #CuratorialResidency #CommunityArt #Bristol #FineArt #ArtForEveryone #StAnnesHouse #uwebristol

This funding isn’t just a grant, it’s a vote of confidence in what happens when communities are given the space, tools, and trust to lead. 🌱 Over the past four years, we’ve seen impact first hand. Local people finding connection, Informal groups becoming self-organised networks, Ideas over a cup of tea turning into programmes that genuinely shape local life. That doesn’t happen overnight and it doesn’t stop here. BIF3 means we can keep showing up for people on our doorstep. In St Anne’s House, in the neighbourhood, and alongside the people who make this community what it is, particularly those who are too often overlooked or underrepresented. We’re in this for the long term. And this funding proves that others believe in that too. Read the full story - link in bio.

Have your say, Brislington! 🗳️ We're now acting as a Community Connector for the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) — bridging the gap between local residents and council decision-makers so your voice can directly shape how funding is spent in our area. We're supporting residents and councillors to prioritise this year's CIL applications, covering everything from road safety improvements to community spaces and local facilities. A note on this year's funding: the picture is a little unusual — there's a current balance of -£10,000 due to last year's overspend and limited new funds coming in. But your input still matters. Well-supported projects could unlock alternative funding or carry forward into next year. 💡 This year's project ideas include: - Brislington Cricket Club facility upgrades ⃗- Community orchard enhancements, including new growing initiatives 🌱 - St Luke's Church Hall toilet refurbishment - Woodcroft Community Orchard improvements - Old Redcliffians RFC ground maintenance - Arnos Park safety and sustainability upgrades - Sandy Park Road safety improvements 👉 Fill out the form (link in bio) and have your say by 10th May. Your feedback goes directly to local councillors and helps shape decisions that affect our community!

Earlier this month, St Anne’s House welcomed neighbours, activists and community members to our seasonal gathering — a chance to share food, exchange ideas and lay the groundwork for climate action in Brislington. The afternoon featured a Quick Wins for Climate workshop led by award-winning environmental activist and St Anne’s House tenant Emma Geen, bringing local people together around tangible, achievable actions from the Brislington Community Climate Action Plan. Sally Azzam and Miranda El Khazen of Land Stories Collective offered a beautiful reminder of why this work matters — sharing the story and flavours of the traditional Palestinian herb Zaʿatar, and drawing the connections between locally rooted action and global land justice. Our Open Mic Community Exchange gave voice to the brilliant green projects, initiatives and ideas already taking root across the community — and helped people find the collaborators they needed to take them further. It was a joy to gather, eat together and feel the momentum building. Thank you to everyone who came, contributed and connected. The seeds are in the ground — watch this space 💚 #Brislington #CommunityClimateAction #StAnnesHouse #SpringGathering #ClimateJustice Bristol
