pedals push pebbles/ creek soaking socks squish and squash/ sylvan miles slide by// . . A roll of Portra from a bikepacking trip in Ai, Georgia, in November with a few of the guys. Pushed one stop. Still struggling with clarity and light seal issues with my FM2. I’m ultimately proud of what came out of this roll, but didn’t meet what I had envisioned with telling this story. Grateful for times to grow, learn, and play with good company

círculos corren/ por vida por mi mente/ forma eterna// . . Been caught up with the flotsam of life and finally finding time to revisit images I’ve made in the last few months traveling and at home. I’ve found funny parallels between processing film and processing life, trying to frame hours and days into some self-satisfactory composition but images only become clear after they’ve developed and I can sit down and devote the required time and sleeve rolling. The process follows constant procedure, but each individual frame changes from the last and demands something distinct from me. Shot on Kodak Gold 200 (pushed to 400) and Kodak Portra 800 (box speed) and developed by @safelightdistrict

Morning lesson I wake before a stirring world/ and peer through window blue/ a stranger, I creep on floors of wood/ then take up rocking pew/ ruby throats dart and buzz/ while delicate aspens quake/ I watch as new light scatters/ and wait for mornings break/ whispers pass through lips of dawn/ a secret seldom kept/ I pause and I remember/ the world has never slept// 6.14.25 Idaho Springs, CO Injury, travel, life, and inspiration have all coincided these last few weeks and I’ve been in the lab writing, shooting, editing, printing, and reflecting - learning lessons on focus and how it manifests in my work and in my life. Here are a few of my favorite shots I made on my recent trip to Colorado, all shot box speed on Portra 800. Slightly noticeably larger grain than 400, but this will likely be my new go-to film stick when price is not in question. It’s worth it to me being able to shoot at higher shutter speeds and have less thoughts on whether shots will turn out scrubby and being able to reasonably shoot indoors, but still need to experiment more pushing 400 as well. I didn’t feel like/ Seven extra syllables/ Writing a poem// . These shots are a bittersweet keepsake from my trip to Africa last year. I held onto a batch of rolls from this trip for months, maybe because I was anxious about the results. Of the half a dozen or so color rolls I developed, this is the only that came out because of a broken lens I wasn’t aware of during the trip. Adding insult to injury of bringing the wrong battery charger with me in the trip and not being able to use my digital camera for the first half of the Namibia leg. Failure is part of the process, particularly with film, and these frames are now all the more precious to me. Thanks for the dev @safelightdistrict

Rick track trollies roll/ Hilltop ganders pass like clouds/ Slow as Appalach// . . Sharing some more old 35mm while I collect more darkroom supplies to process new stuff. . This is a roll of Kodak 5053 TMY, better known as T-MAX 400, that I shot in '23. This was the last roll of a batch of my father's old film stock he gave me that expired in the 90's and early 00's. I had a number of other obscure expired rolls developed with mixed results, so expectations were low. I was pretty stunned with the results. While there's apparent loss in dynamic range and clarity and the emulsion is pretty noticeably scratched in places, the fact that stains and shifts were minimal and tolerable and I got consistent results across the whole filmstrip impressed me. High praise to @safelightdistrict for the dev on these.

Stale white mutes nightfall darkness/ Snow parries the dusk/ Day’s remnants hangs on thin air// . . Early 2025 in monochrome. I want to keep advancing my work in the year to come and part of that is shooting more BW, shooting more film (especially medium format), and intent to publish. If you know avenues for print photography (galleries, magazines, etc.) please let me know, I don’t really know where to start and could use all the direction I can get. . . Also yes it’s 7/5/7
