Heartfelt thanks to the amazing team at @diller_scofidio_renfro for once again hosting the @themsarch design charette as part of our annual New York trip sponsored by @brickability @itsjoshcox 14 of our students were joined by 7 students from @clemsonschoolofarchitecture for an afternoon design challenge to propose a new or revamped pier in the city. The day before we visited numerous potential sites along the Hudson and East Rivers, as well as over in Brooklyn around the DUMBO area. The students were supported by myself and Victoria Jolley from MSA, Peter Laurence from Clemson, and MSA / @manmetuni Visiting Professor Jilly Traganou from Parsons New School. Finally, each team presented their proposals to Ben Gilmartin Charles Berman Michael Samoc and Chris Andreacola from DS+R who offered local insights as well as practice insights into such projects. It was an inspirational day for all! Special thanks as ever to Katherine Gittings Kliewer for the organisation and of course to Liz Diller herself for the generous invitation!

Now that’s what we call a brick match 🧱 Like a high majority of #London, Pont Street is home to many buildings featuring the London Yellow Stock brick. Being a popular brick, sourcing these should have been a relatively easy task. Critically, due to the natural weathering that occurs on any #brick over time, the newly manufactured versions wouldn’t have provided the exact match needed for the Walton House Residences project. Instead, the extension required reclaimed yellow stock bricks to achieve the perfect visual continuation of its neighbouring streetscape. Sourced and supplied by Kieran Cioffi from our Mitcham office, the final results speak for themselves. Is a brick match crucial for your next development? Reclaimed bricks help to marry historic architecture and contemporary living at Walton House Residences. ✨ An extension project in the heart of Knightsbridge, the Walton House Residences are also surrounded by listed buildings and heritage sites, meaning nothing but the perfect brick match would suit. Working with @ksrarchitects and @mdesignlondon , Kieran Cioffi from our Mitcham team provided specialist consultation to source and supply reclaimed yellow stock bricks, to achieve the desired, authentic result. Where planning can sometimes delay a project, our teams' knowledge of the Cotswold region meant we were readily able to suggest suitable stone options to move this gorgeous new development through the planning process. Combined with their authentic design, the Ellenbrook development from @spitfire.homes is a natural extension of Moreton-in-Marsh, conserving the beauty of the Cotswolds and ensuring architectural integrity.
