Tuna Harbor Dock • California • February 8, 2026 Along the working waterfront at Tuna Harbor Dockside Market in San Diego, we gathered between fishing boats and sail boats as the tide breathed in and out beside us. This beloved market stands as a testament to the legendary diver and fisherman Pete Halmay, who helped secure the legislation that made fishermen’s markets like this possible across California. Sharing a dockside meal with Pete was an absolute honor. In the playful hands of chef Brian Redzikowski of Kettner Exchange, the evening sparkled with surprise. Guests found whales made of butter beached on their platters, and sticky toffee pudding cake arrived crowned with fishies crème fraîche panna cotta that made the whole table grin. Grilled swordfish with pickled Connelly Farms chilies, roasted Dassi Family Farm tomato, and impossibly tender Two Forks Farms cauliflower nearly knocked us overboard with how beautifully it was prepared. With the harbor glowing in the last light of day, Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance flickered across a few phones at the table, and as he wove his story through song, we were reminded of the many cultures and histories that converge to share a story each time we gather for a meal. It’s always worth repeating how grateful we are for the farmers, producers, chefs, and hosts who open their worlds to us. ❤️ host  Pete Halmay | @tunaharbordocksidemarket Tuna Harbor Dockside Market, San Diego, CA host fisherman Joey Principato | @santamonicaseafoodco Santa Monica Seafood, Santa Monica, CA guest chef Brian Redzikowski | @brianredzikowski Kettner Exchange, San Diego, CA guest curator Kyle Knox | @jjknoxwine JJ Knox Wine, San Diego, CA guest fisherman Joe Daly | @dalyfishco Daly Grind Fishing, San Diego, CA guest farmer Ryan Connelly | @connelly_farms_01 Connelly Farms, Ramona, CA photographer @agardenofsorts_photo

Here we go with the next chapter of Who Is Jack Ford?, the series where I ask the chefs who cook with him, learn from him, and rely on him to answer one simple question: Who is Jack Ford, and what does he mean to you? Each interview was captured during the Harvest Festival, and every chef brings their own lived experience of Jack …the way he supports them, challenges them, feeds them, and ultimately helps make this community what it is. Today’s feature is Chef Brian Redzikowski of Kettner Exchange, someone whose respect for Jack runs deep and whose perspective adds another layer to this story we’re telling about the man behind so much of our local food culture. Watch the full video, and stay tuned, more chefs, more memories, and more love for someone who truly anchors this community.

Raison d’etre would have been a great alternate name for Outstanding in the Field. The expression is a succinct descriptor of what we look for and what is found in Big Sur. Sui generis also describes it well. Or exemplar. But even these don’t quite suffice. Really, you need to come see for yourself. OMG or holy moly in the field? Still forking delicious 🍴   We came back (again) with high expectations... and it did not disappoint. Kettner Exchange @kettnerexchange is still one of Little Italy’s hottest spots, and Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski @brianredzikowski keeps innovating.   🥗 Kale salad 🍚 Spicy tuna crispy rice 🥢 Big-eye tuna sashimi 🐟 Japanese hamachi tostada 🐠 Big-eye tuna tart 🧀 Whipped buttermilk ricotta 🍜 Hot & spicy garlic noodles 🦆 Duck meatball 🐓 Grilled Mary’s chicken 🎣 Grilled striped bass 🍮 Budino   We re-ordered some of our favorites (because they were that good) and added a few new ones that were just as amazing.   The menu changes daily, so catch these dishes while you can. And don’t be shy, order like you mean it as they’re perfect for sharing. . . #spicytuna #sashimilover #bigeyetuna #meatball #littleitalysd #littleitalysandiego #sandiegorestaurants #sandiegofoodie #sandiegofood
