This year’s @NashvilleElvisFestival didn’t exactly go as planned. Our 10th anniversary- our biggest ever - came with a terrifying 24 hours where I yelled, screamed and bargained with God, begging for my wife to be okay. And as always, even when I doubted, He came through. I’m so proud and grateful to our team for pulling together in my absence, and delivering FLAWLESS shows on Friday while I sat at the hospital, wondering what would come next. It seemed impossible that I would be back to work on Saturday or that Jess would be well enough to make an appearance backstage... but that’s exactly what happened. I’m just so incredibly thankful for the love, prayers and support of everyone, and most of all for the incredible team that had our backs the whole way through. Jess has always been my miracle. Now more than ever.

Heartbroken. We said goodbye to Max this afternoon. He was almost 17! Blind, dementia, reduced heart and lung capacity, COPD… he was one hell of a fighter. Last fall he poked his eye out in the yard (literally). It was horrific. But he just kept going. He loved to eat and loved to be held. He stopped walking this week, and stopped eating in the last 48 hours. He let us know he was ready. And he could not have left us more peacefully.
I held him last night and the 2nd photo is our final one together. I’m glad I thought to capture the moment as he slept peacefully in my arms.
And the final photo is from our wedding day. Jess got ready at a friend‘s house, and Max was their dog. Jess is holding a puppy that would one day be ours. We had no idea at the time that Max would eventually come to live with us at the age of 5. Thank you, @tysoareshall & @adamhallart , for trusting us with him. You have no idea the gift you gave us. @jesmayes & I are forever grateful.

Last week in DC, I had the incredible opportunity to climb to the top of the dome of the United States Capitol — 370 steps (18 stories) from the Capitol basement to the top of the outer dome, and 180 feet above the Rotunda floor. The steep and cavernous climb up narrow 19th century staircases snake between the inner and outer domes, out of view of visitors and lawmakers… culminating in the most unbelievable 360 degree views from the very top of the Capitol dome. This tour is not available to the general public, and I never even knew this existed. It was an unbelievable experience. Thank you Congressman @zinkeformontana and @moreswift for the invitation. So much fun!
