Congratulations to Jim Nothing for taking out the Tui for Te Manu Taki Whanokē o te Tau/Best Alternative Artist at @aotearoamusicawards on Thursday night for his absolute ripper of an album Grey Eyes, Grey Lynn.
This is a win for the scruffy ones. It is a no-budget album, written at home by James, recorded on cheap microphones in a garage, and mixed on a pair of $50 headphones. It's cool to see Melted Ice Cream's ethos be represented with a win like this and have this album honoured by the wider music community in such a ridiculously fancy ceremony on TV with a red carpet and substantial canapés.

Avon Dads are a band of amicable sorts who live in Christchurch consisting of James Chalmers (bass/vocals), Ben Dodd (guitar/vocals), and Hollan Brabet (drums/vocals). Their sound is inspired by your dad explaining to you how to put together a piece of flat-pack furniture.

Mt. Oxford - Wharfedale Hut - Ryde Falls track 23-24 October. Hardest hike I’ve ever done. Slept outside due to some shady old punishers occupying the Wharfedale hut. 16 hours hiking over two days up and down fairly relentless terrain. Ate saveloys and surprise peas.
