Rest easy Bob Power.
I was an intern at Battery Studios in ’93–’94 when he was working on Midnight Marauders with A Tribe Called Quest. I had just finished three years in the Navy on a submarine. Somewhere during those years underwater, I realized I wanted to be an audio engineer. I went to school as soon as I got out… and was lucky enough to land an internship at Battery.
I didn’t have a seat at the console — I was running around making sure everyone had their food, cleaning up, sometimes answering the phones.
But I was there.
I remember being handed a DAT — a Digital Audio Tape — and being told, “Listen and make sure there are no issues.” No one said what it was.
Man… I remember hitting play and being mesmerized from the first bar to the last note.
It was Midnight Marauders.
To hear that album before the world did — and to now know what it would become — was an incredible experience. To this day, it’s still one of my favorites.
That building was alive then. Tribe in one room. De La Soul around the corner. The Native Tongues era unfolding in real time.
Years later I emailed Bob a few times. I was nobody special — just another engineer asking questions — and he was nothing but kind.
That stuck with me.
Legends don’t have to be generous. He was.

I guess it’s easy for people to just simply forget the mass attacks on #Israel throughout the years from those who voted Hamas into power. To forget that missiles are constantly launched into Israel from Iran funded countries, that Israeli busses & stores have been blown up. That Israeli Kidnappings and slayings occur as well.
Have you considered: Who elected Hamas into power? Who let Hamas build tunnels to attack Israel and then hide? Who teaches their children about death to Israel, death to America?
How about holding those who forcefully use innocent Palestinians as human shields responsible for a change.
Or maybe stop ignoring what happened on October 7th where Jewish babies were left in ovens to burn. Where women & children were raped or whole families were massacred. Where people were beheaded or killed in front of their families or taken hostage and haven’t been returned.
It’s easy to be empathetic to one side while forgetting facts.
Are you aware of how many Israelis currently live in Gaza? Zero! They gave it to the Palestinians years ago.
I’m very upset by the indoctrinated ignorance of the American youth taught by colleges & ill informed liberal professors. YES, it’s extremely unfortunate that “anyone” dies be it Jewish or Palestinian.
At least Israel attempts to protect the innocent by providing them advance notice of future actions. Israel will also provide shelter & food for those who can make it to safety.
As a Jewish American who is aware of the Holocaust, this whole situation is sad, frightening and frustrating.
On another note… it’s interesting that Ukrainian held hostages and Ukrainian deaths by Russians haven’t had the same types of protests against Russia!
