With all the talk of hantavirus I thought I should evict the mouse family living in the box where this painting has been stored for many years. Needless to say, they will not be getting their deposit back. About 10 years prior to this painting was when I began thinking about pre-stretched canvas and the meaning of it as a material and where it sits in the pantheon of material/value. How does it affect our reading in terms of expression and what that means. Culturally, socially, and by class - where is expression housed? It’s been a long journey and I think I’ve come to some solid conclusions in the last year. Ideas are portable.

Faith in Suitcases dated May 8th 2024. Finished today May 9th 2026. Second photo is a catalogue I picked up at Apport Used Books recently. It gave me an idea to write or do a show called The Unresponsive Eye. The artists will be those that respond through informed knowledge to develop their work with no response from actual seeing. In actuality informed knowledge is sometimes - if not always - used as a tool or expression of power. DM me images of your work (or others) if you would like to be considered for inclusion. Commit to #accessorize not to fraud.

Less than a handful of people have seen this drawing I made in 2003. Today I decided to unroll it, and sitting now, looking at it today, is a good experience. - Hand Job, China Marker with elements of Collage, 61 x 70 inches, 2003

I’m obsessive about not contaminating brushes. Second from left is a Del Rey China Tumbler by Metlox Poppytrail Vernon. Vernon Kilns was a dishware ceramitorium that Metlox acquired in full that was located in Vernon CA. This happened in 1958. I acquired the glass in 1986 when I moved away for college. My grandparents loaded me up with all sorts of odd dishes from their store. It has traveled with me ever since and when it developed a crack it became a brush holder. The second photo is just damn cool. Imagine sitting and eating with that painting facing you. 😵‍💫 - don’t let the authoritarianism get you down. Do your own thing - band together. Authoritarianism has been with us in this country for a long time, but we chose to ignore it. We can’t do that anymore, and when it’s over it will be gone for good but so will the democracy we understand. Let’s make sure that what we get is stronger, with greater understanding. In order to do that we’ll need an absolute overhaul of everything. Everything must change. Say no to the Authoritarian’s in every aspect of your life.

Cool to have a guest today and he was insistent on having his picture taken. So I said, “Bernie, the only way I’ll take your picture is if you put mittens and a mask on.” Dude had them in his car. Later, we talked about politics and stuff while sipping Vermont cider. 🍺

Anecdote for Collective Hypnosis 😵‍💫 - usual paint - average size. Various stages of some “what is underneath”, a drawing and expanded studio, a dead paint brush that was laying in the street one day while I was walking to my job. It’s a sign for someone - but not me. ———> painting should really be that thing that breaks the spell and not a thing that reinforces it. #iykyk

Toe to Toe - 24 x 18 inches - oil and chalk on canvas - a couple of other shots and the drawing it came from. I have rulers but they’re only for spanking.
