Great energy and great music 🥁
Damn, I met John Forte back in 2014 at @brewerystudio in Brooklyn. I was there for a whole weekend documenting the BTS of a Talib Kwali album that never came out. So many different celebrities came to the studio that weekend, but the first day it was just me, Talib, John, the producer 88 Keys, the battle rapper Serious Jones and my friend, journalist Kevin Powell. It was super surreal for me cause at the time I wanted to start a career making music, so to be in studio with people who I grew up listening to for the first time was the realization of the reason I picked up a camera in the first place. Even though I wasn’t there to make music, I was just happy to be in the room. Back then I was always like a fly on the wall in situations like that, but for some reason John kept pulling me into the conversation, making me feel like a part of the process. I remember finding it interesting that Talib stuck with pen and paper and John would write on his tablet. At one point I asked John if he would step out on the roof with me so I could take a picture of him and he said yea. That’s when I took the photo on the second slide. Life can be so random… I’m glad we crossed paths brother. Rest up Legend 👑🕊️ ✨
