Blast from the past;
Back in 2018 i had the opportunity to join @h.e.r.p._herpetofauna on a trip to Iran, to go look for one of the most fascinating snake species on earth!
Pseudocerastes urarachnoides, also known as the spider-tailed horned viper, is a venomous snake found in western Iran.
This unique species gets its name from the spider-like appendage at the end of its tail. The appendage is made up of modified scales, which it uses to mimic the movements of a spider, luring prey within striking distance.
With its camouflaged scales and stealthy movements, the spider-tailed horned viper is a true master of deception, and a formidable predator in its own right.
At that time i only had an Iphone 7 to take photos with, so nevermind the bad quality๐ maybe one day i can get better shots of this beast!

Trimeresurus calamitas
Our adventure to Nias turned out to be quite challenging. A landslide on Sumatra and constant bad weather made the journey difficult, and once we arrived, we had no cellphone connection, no electricity, and no running water, basically stuck on an off-grid island the entire time.
Luckily, Rikke spotted this huge female Trimeresurus calamitas, which instantly made the whole situation worth it. Seeing such a massive and beautiful viper in the wild, especially under those circumstances, felt unreal.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful vipers Iโve ever seen.
