Photos from the Georgetown Steering Team Gala last month. It was a great experience for my first time hosting a formal event and the first of a three day communication celebration.
Grateful for my family’s support and for the positive feedback from those who attended the event!
Last week Mr. Guy and I went to Hamilton Elementary to present the History of Georgetown to the 4th and 5th graders.
Highlights from the presentation with the 4th graders:
- When I get to the last box on notable people who lived/ worked in Georgetown I said “and this is my Grandpa, Ishmael Harris” the group collectively gasped like its the most shocking news that he was my grandpa lol. Later during the trivia when I point to his picture and ask “Can anyone tell me his name?” A student yells out “That’s Grandpa!!!”
- When explaining who Zora Neale Hurston was, another student asked if I was like her because I’m a writer and study people. In my mind Im like “..Well, yes!” (in my Tokyo Toni voice). Again during the trivia when I pointed to Zora’s picture and asked who she was that same student goes
“That’s your twin!”
The kids were funny but they learned a lot of local history.
Excited to see who all participates in the art history contest.
Here’s a reminder for maybe no one else but me that local journalism matters.

I used to always get in trouble for drawing on the wall as a kid.
Now I can say my art was on walls in during Miami Art Basel!
And I sold 2 pieces on opening night.
When I started the first piece in The Writers Room series in February 2023, I didnt think it would take me here. It’s been a great journey so far and I’m excited to see what I work on next!

What if my life was a TV show? As the main character, how would I interact with the writers and show Creator?
All the pieces in this series (the completed pieces and the soon to be created) are from scenes, moments, or concepts of my actual life. Art is my therapy and one of the most easiest forms of expression to me. I want this series to not only get people to understand the deeper side of me (outside of being a journalist) and to cause people to think about the own lives.

I feel like love is a process. Something you learn to do, whether it’s loving yourself or another person. For the past year, I’ve wanted to talk with (interview) older women to hear their experience with and view on love. Hopefully that’s something I can do this year 🤞🏾
