Announcing our 2026 Hall of Fame Awardee: Jonathan Guzman Each year, the Bread & Roses Heritage Festival honors a community member who exemplifies the values and spirit of the Festival. We are thrilled to announce this year’s honoree, Jonathan Guzman. As an elected at-large member of the Lawrence School Committee, Jonathan’s work has had a direct and lasting impact on students and families across the city. Through shaping school policy, overseeing budgets, and advocating for transparency and opportunity, his leadership reflects a deep belief in the power of education as a pathway to equity and growth. Beyond the local level, Jonathan’s work as Director of Environmental Justice and Equity at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs represents a profound commitment to advancing justice on a broader scale. Through this role, he continues to uplift communities including Lawrence that have historically faced environmental and systemic inequities, ensuring that policy is created with fairness, access, and meaningful impact in mind. We look forward to honoring Jonathan at this year’s Festival for his leadership, commitment, and unwavering dedication to the people of Lawrence. #lawrence #community #breadandroses

Announcing our 2026 Logo and Logo Creator! Once again, the Festival has partnered with youth at Movement City and Lawrence CommunityWorks to design this year’s logo. This year’s logo designer, Franny, has this to say about her design: “Hi! I’m Franny, and I am a freshman in high school. I have been a student at Movement City for three years. I have participated in every workshop Movement City offers. I’ve danced, rapped, and created both digital and traditional art. These last three years in the program have been the best of my life, Movement City has watched my confidence grow. The inspiration for this logo came from my connection to the Movement City building itself specifically, the way the bricks are arranged. The word “community” also reminded me of my own community at Movement City. I chose to depict hands because I feel it is the simplest way to represent the community of Lawrence. “Built by Labor Powered by Community” is a title that represents that only the people that you’re close with are the people that support you and your creations.” Stay tuned for announcements about how you can purchase this year’s merch. #lawrence #community #lawrencecommunity

As most of you know, Stephen generously shared his vast collection of labor and social justice posters with us through gallery exhibits for nearly the past 25 years. Those exhibits weren’t just displays; they were powerful reminders of the struggles, victories, and stories that define our collective history. His passion aligned so naturally with the mission of the Bread & Roses Heritage Festival, and we were incredibly fortunate to have him as part of our extended family for so many years. He served as Treasurer of the Bread & Roses Heritage Committee for several years. A role he took on with the same care, thoughtfulness, and dedication that he brought to everything he did. His steady presence and willingness to support behind the scenes made a lasting impact on our organization. He gave his time, his knowledge, and his passion to this community, and in doing so, helped strengthen the foundation we continue to build on today. He will be missed, but his work and the stories he helped preserve will continue to live on through all of us.

This Women’s History Month, we honor the women whose courage shaped labor history and built the legacy of the Bread & Roses Strike of 1912. Thank you to the women who made that movement possible, to the women whose labor helped build this country, and to the women who continue to pour their time, leadership, and energy into the Bread & Roses Festival as volunteers, community, consultants, and board members. We see you. We appreciate you. We thank you. Happy Women’s History Month #womenshistorymonth #lawrence #womenempowerment

Black History is not just a month, it’s movement.
It’s labor. It’s art. It’s resistance. It’s joy. At the Bread & Roses Heritage Festival, we honor the workers, the dreamers, the organizers, and the storytellers who built foundations with their hands and powered communities with their hearts. This Black History Month, we celebrate the brilliance that continues to shape our cities, our culture, and our future. Built by labor. Powered by community.
Yesterday. Today. Always. #BlackHistoryMonth #BreadAndRoses #community #lawrence
