Last night, the circle opened, and we all stepped inside.
What began as MYCELIUM DRUMMING × FIRE DANCE unfolded into something far more alive than an event. It became a living artwork.
At CoCA – Collective of Contemporary Artists, we often say that we build communities around artwork instead of audiences.
This is not a one-night moment, it is the nature of our practice. Again and again, our gatherings become spaces where art is not simply witnessed, but lived, shared, and created together.
There was no rehearsal.
No stage.
No separation between performer and observer.
The moment the first drum sounded, the boundary dissolved.
Hands that arrived empty found instruments.
Bodies that arrived shy found rhythm.
Strangers found each other in movement.
People stepped out of their comfort zones, listened deeply, played with instruments, danced together, and trusted the unknown. The audience became part of the art-making process, co-creating a shared experience in real time.
Analog rhythms slowly merged with live electronic sound and DJ sets, forming a living sonic ecosystem, a mycelial network of vibration, presence, and joyful connection.
This was the second moment of our year-long mycelium cycle: Fruiting & Sporing. And last night, the spores truly spread.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who entered the circle and made this gathering possible.
Special thanks to Rachel Porquet-Chanmugamfor bringing this idea into the CoCA ecosystem, and to Bread Modular, Etosha Lankatilleke, and Alain for their beautiful collaboration and energy.
We didn’t host a performance.
We witnessed a community forming in real time.
The rhythm continues. 🔥🥁🌱

Tomorrow the circle opens.
Rain outside.
Warmth inside.
A small fire at the heart of the room.
The mycelium keeps growing.
MYCELIUM DRUMMING × FIRE DANCE returns, tomorrow night, and the weather only makes the gathering more intimate, more alive, more necessary.
Mushrooms.
Drums.
Bodies in motion.
Analog pulses meeting live electronic sound and DJ sets.
Practice turning into presence. Presence turning into rhythm.
Nothing rehearsed.
Nothing fixed.
Only listening, responding, and finding each other through sound.
Bring a drum if you have one.
Bring your body if you don’t.
Bring your curiosity either way.
Let the rain fall outside while we grow a forest of rhythm indoors. 🔥🥁🌱

He couldn't import the instrument he wanted in Sri Lanka.
50% import tax. No way to hear it. No way to touch it before buying.
So Arunoda Susiripala taught himself electronics from the internet and built one from scratch.
Then open sourced everything so no one else has to start from zero.
"It's not like a expensive hobby anymore. That's what I want."

Massive love to everyone who showed up last night and brought that wild, unhinged Avurudu-after energy with you. The dancefloor was alive, the vibes were absolutely solar, and every single one of you made it what it was.
Big shoutout to the DJs who kept us moving all night long, you already know you went hard 🔥
From the early beats to the last track, it was chaos in the best possible way. Thank you for dancing, laughing, losing yourselves for a bit, and making the night unforgettable.

Sound becomes a meeting ground, three practices unfolding through listening, interruption, and response, where authorship softens and something collective begins to emerge.
At CoCA Symbiosis, this is not an event but an ongoing condition: a space where artists think together, form through relation, and shape living ecologies of practice beyond the individual.

Three artists meet in sound, listening, responding, dissolving into a shared field of resonance where collaboration becomes a way of thinking within evolving ecologies.
Since 2011, CoCA Symbiosis has grown as a living ground for interdisciplinary exchange, cultivating networks and communities not as audiences, but as participants within art-driven ecologies of connection and shared making.
