Skin, the largest organ in your body, the first part of you that people look at, the one that protects you and covers your body with melanin.
Skin, that changed with me, that which made me look at myself beyond my appearance, that made me realise that I am more than its colour and appearance.
Skin that burned and dried up under the sun like the emotions that were buried inside me and wouldn’t let me find myself.
Skin that’s been a huge learning curve for the past three years.
Skin that turned into different shades and shapes as I grew out of phases in life.
Skin that broke itself to accommodate the changes my body and mind were going through.
Skin that is slowly helping me heal myself inside out and discover parts of myself that I watch in wonder.
This is an Ode to you.
Thankyou.

Tired. That’s what I feel most days.
Every joint in my body hurts.
From my fingers, to the wrist, elbows, chest, knees, to the toes in my feet.
Inflammation takes over my body most days. Even moving a finger is a task some days.
It feels like I’m living in a borrowed body.
A body that feels like a cage.
A cage that doesn’t make room for everything I am and want to be.
A cage that doesn’t grow with my ever growing mind.
A cage that unlike a womb won’t make space for you and hold you in comfort. I’m tired of feeling betrayed by my own body.
But this too shall pass.

Changes. We all go through them, some better than the other.
Change is never easy. It takes so much but also gives a lot.
For me the changes I was going through put me in a spiral.
I was going through stages of grief.
Grieving the body that no longer felt mine.
Denying the fact that huge changes are coming my way.
Angry at the mind for playing games, Angry at myself and my surroundings for putting me in this spot.
Bargaining with any higher power and sometimes even questioning the existence of the same, shattering everything I’ve known.
Depression was my partner in the initial period, mindlessly wandering through the hours of the day and night wondering where it all went wrong.
Finally came a point where I found power and comfort in the people around me who stayed through these changes.
There came a point where my entire perspective changed. A slowly and gradual change.
I stopped blaming myself.
