My perfect baby boy,
From your first cries to the sweet sounds of your infectious laughter, this year has been filled with so many memories. God truly favored me when He gave me the honor of being your mommy. Although I miss the tiny 6 pound baby who came into this world with a bang, I love watching you grow and become your own person. I pray you continue to be a bright light everywhere you go. This is only the beginning my little love, daddy and I love you more than words. Happy Birthday🤍

Living out all of my bottle girl dreams lately 🤭 This small labor of love brings me so much joy. Do you have a little? What small act are you most happy to do for them?

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
Proverbs 16:9
To say that this week has been emotional would be a complete understatement. Today, as I celebrate 1 week of motherhood, I can't help but to reflect on the favor that God showed us through the birth of our baby boy.
Large, ill-positioned fibroids and a breech baby all but guaranteed a scheduled c-section for me. The date was set, the surgery plan was discussed, the team was notified, and I had completely come to terms with my reality.... That is, until God reminded me that birth is about surrendering.
In movie-like fashion, my water broke around 2 am Friday morning. I woke Alfred up, and the nurse in me immediately told him not to panic and that everything would be okay. Shock, excitement, and a little anxiety filled me, but I knew I would be meeting my son soon. I prayed and gave thanks to The Lord the entire drive to the hospital as the contractions became more and more intense. I was met by my work family who eagerly admitted me to our unit and calmed my spirit by filling the room with lots of laughter, reassurance, and pictures.
My mom arrived shortly after and instinctively reminded me to breathe through the waves. As I waited for my doctor, who happened to be on the unit for the night, I was checked by my sweet midwife friend and was discovered to be in active labor at nearly 6cm... well this speeds things up a bit. The Holy Spirit tells me to call my prayer warrior, and at 4 in the morning she prayed over that entire room and every person that would be a part of our care. Soon after, I was being wheeled to the OR.
I sat up for my anesthesia in the same spot that I had put countless patients in and tried to remember all of the "nurse" things. Is my back pushed out? Are my shoulders relaxed? Contraction. Breathe deep. Blow it out. Don't move. Then as the bliss of modern medicine began to take effect, I had a moment of giddiness with one of my favorite CRNAs. (Continued in the comments)
Loving on me and celebrating this body 🤍
From the beginning, I prayed that I would carry this pregnancy (and whatever ailments it would bring 😅) with grace. I never could have imagined the joy I would experience in seeing my body adapt and stretch to accommodate this new life. She may look different in the coming weeks and months, but this will serve as my reminder that she has done a miraculous thing, and she deserves to be celebrated!
