Lilium
A sustainable, patient-centered alternative to the vaginal speculum
Designed by Ariadna Izcara Gual
Lilium has been chosen as one of two Special Mentions for the BraunPrize 2024.
The vaginal speculum, one of the most common instruments in gynecological procedures, has seen little change since its invention in 1845, despite its notorious discomfort and controversial history. Lilium is a revolutionary alternative, providing comfort and reducing invasiveness during pelvic exams and procedures like IUD placements while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Lilium offers two insertion options: self-insertion, similar to a tampon applicator, or insertion by healthcare professionals. This empowers patients, transforming them from passive to active participants in their care.

Flow
Ostomy Irrigation Belt
Designed by Ollie Harper
Flow has been chosen as one of two Special Mentions for the BraunPrize 2024.
Flow is a portable ostomy irrigation system designed to offer an alternative to traditional colostomy bags. It works by filling the stoma with water, removing waste, and eliminating the need for bags. Traditional methods require users to spend up to an hour in the bathroom, but Flow provides a more convenient, mobile option. The system includes a heating pack, reservoir, pump, and belt, making it easy to use on the go.

NWTN
A new way of weighing vehicles
Designed by
Silvester Kössler @silvesterkoe
NWTN was chosen as one of the two Gold winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 10,000.
NWTN utilizes a basic physics principle where you can calculate the weight of a car by measuring the tires air-pressure and the contact area between the tire and the road. This measurement process can be done without putting NWTN under the wheel, next to it is enough. So, a single device and measuring each wheel in sequence is sufficient - eliminating the need for 12 heavy scales.

HIPCARE was chosen as one of the two Gold winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 10,000.
Unlike conventional casts, Hipcare is designed to prioritize comfort and hygiene. Made from PLA mixed with copper particles, it provides a lightweight and breathable alternative. One of Hipcare's standout features is its 3D-printed customization. Using 3D scan results, The splint is a personalized 3D printed that adapts to the baby's body, ensuring the correct hip treatment position. This use of 3D printing makes the application process easier, more sustainable, and precise compared to traditional casting methods.

Warmth of the past, design for the future.
Reimagining tiled stoves for modern living.
Designed by
Ludvig Karlsson @lvk_works
”Warmth of the past, design for the future” has been chosen as one of five Silver winners for the BraunPrize 2024.
The goal of this design is to create a heating solution that is both functional and decorative, drawing on the emotional and social warmth the tiled stove once brought to homes. Infrared technology, unlike air-based systems, delivers localized radiant heat that directly warms objects and people in its path, offering more efficient, targeted warmth. This reintroduces direct heating, making it well-suited to today’s flexible living spaces. What sets this concept apart from conventional infrared panels is its fusion of ceramic craftsmanship with modern technology.

PAL
Hybrid arm prosthesis
Designed by
Heinrich Zaunschirm @heinrich_zaunschirm_id
PAL was chosen as one of the five Silver winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 5,000.
The prosthesis can be cost-effectively tailor-made and customized using a configurator software based on the users’ individual needs and desires. This process is facilitated by leveraging technologies like 3D-printing to reduce cost and manual work effort. It is cable-actuated by body movements using a breathable undershirt that is locally reinforced to equally distribute the pulling forces.

re- club
Kids' footwear made easy to refurbish and recycle
Designed by @yo.off
Yohanna Rieckhoff
re- club was chosen as one of the five Silver winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 5,000.
Through observations, tests, and expert consultations, the designer developed a simple, unisex, everyday shoe with minimal parts. The upper and sole are assembled without glue or stitching, and each part can be replaced independently as it wears out. For the sole, Yohanna chose TPU, which is durable and 100% recyclable. The upper is crafted using 3D knitting technology, offering seamless, waste-free production. The design resembles a double sock, with pockets that hold the sole strips, ensuring no uncomfortable contact with the skin.

Spark
Hands-on learning for children in a digital world
Designed by
Lenz Connor Bätzing @lenzcon.design
Mårten Malmnäs @martenmalmnas
Spark was chosen as one of the five Silver winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 5,000.
Spark is designed to extend learning beyond the classroom, supporting children with homework, tutoring, or even playful explorations. Rather than increasing screen time, Spark uses laser projections to create an immersive, hands-on learning environment in combination
with analog materials like school books and notebooks. Spark fosters engagement - without sacrificing traditional learning tools. The wall-projector seamlessly displays relevant
information related to the material on the desk, enhancing the connection between digital and physical learning.

FITS
Force Indicating Tether Solutions
Designed by
Niklas Andreasen @and.niklas
Silvester Kössler @silvesterkoe
Ellis Walker @ellisantoni_
FITS was chosen as one of the five Silver winners of the BraunPrize 2024, receiving an award of USD 5,000.
FITS are tracking devices improving safety and efficiency of currently time-consuming, labor-intensive and error-prone lashing operations on cargo ships. Through an adaptable clamping system, each unit permanently attaches to mechanical securing gear of various sizes. Direct contact allows embedded strain gauge sensors to constantly measure the lashing’s
required tension by monitoring deformation.
