Dutch trio Parker Fans channel the energy of your favourite cassette mixtape, translating it to a boisterous pop sound that leans on the foundation of drum samples, synths and ultra groovy bass to shuffle styles with a magpie’s spirit. The main directive is simple and altruistic: get people to dance their bleeding hearts out.
Appearing at festivals like Best Kept Secret, Left of the Dial, Into The Great Wide Open and Eurosonic – as well as shows with Altin Gün, Pip Blom and Jungle By Night – Parker Fans built themselves a reputation for maximum mayhem – in grubby clubs and bigger festivals alike and every reputable and questionable establishment inbetween. Two years after their explosive debut, VALS ALARM has become an unmistakable presence in the alternative music scene. The band’s summers have been packed with high-energy shows at festivals such as Best Kept Secret, MadNes, and Wildeburg, with the highlight being a support slot for Goldband at a sold-out Ziggo Dome. Now, the band is taking a slightly more mysterious direction: less visibility, more focus on… new music?
VALS ALARM proves that rules don’t really matter. Diverse tracks like “BORING,” “LOSER,” “FAST BIKES,” “NEW BOYS,” “I SAY,” and “WHO ARE YOU?” have grown into crowd favorites. They even briefly ventured into country territory, though that chapter now lies behind them. What comes next is anything but predictable.
The band is currently working on new material under the name I.D.I.O.T — whether it will actually be released as an EP, or whether they’ll take a completely different route, remains unclear. As always, VALS ALARM does things their own way.
What is certain: the single I.D.I.O.T. will be released shortly before their appearance at Down The Rabbit Hole, where they’ll play on the Sunday. The band themselves describe I.D.I.O.T. as “happy plonkie-plonkie punk you simply can’t stand still to.” They continue to surprise with a fresh sound, blending synths with their signature guitars. The result is a live show that delivers pure chaos and euphoria — something VALS ALARM seems to have perfected by now.
