I feel it’s time for me to introduce myself to you 😌 Excuse me for not doing so sooner… Greetings Love, I have a few names, and you can call me whichever one you like. Brandy is my legal name. The name Amiru was given to me at birth as well. It means “ruler” or “tree top.” Miss Brandywine is my stage name, but ultimately I Am That I Am is my name (iykyk) 😉 👩🏽‍🏫 I tend to be internally analytical, externally easygoing, amusing, passionate, optimistic, and honest. 📚 I’m a writer of journals, poetry, essays, and documents. I perform spoken word and host gatherings where others perform spoken word too. I am the business owner and chief writer of @brandywinepr , where I story-tell through copywriting. 🚴🏽‍♀️ I love reading, deep conversations, and bike riding. And drawing, singing, and dancing in judgement-free spaces. 👩🏽‍💻 Oh! When Oshun (the music duo) said, “But I’m thinking much greater finna teach my moms to fly take her to a place where her soul will align” I FELT that. These snapshots are artifacts from Queens and Daughters day last year. To have my mom and my daughter in my spiritual home at the same time was a checkpoint where my soul said Yes, I’m doing what I’m here to do. Keep going. You’re on the right path. I felt perfect peace being present with mother in the place where I receive attunement. And to have my daughter there at the same time? Priceless. When you’re a vessel for God, you don’t get to allow the fear of judgement, embarrassment, or insecurity to stop you from doing your work. In this video, I am practicing distance reiki to send to my sister in Africa. I’m in public, in the middle of an active square in Downtown Savannah. I can’t lie, the thought came to mind that people probably think I’m weird. But it didn’t matter because it was requested to send healing energy to my sister in Ghana right then and there. Before this past weekend, I may not have been as open to doing this… During this past Soul Sister Sunday @sankofahousesavannah , Chieftess @kamilah_kamaat guided us to practice reiki energy healing on one another. She gave us some tools and then encouraged us to allow ourselves to work intuitively without judgement of ourselves or the sister we were partnered to work with. Tears flowed through my partner’s eyes shortly after I began. Then, at the end of it, she told me that her cycle had started 🩸. This was confirmation for me that energy had moved during the session, and, honestly, it gave me the confidence to keep practicing. I know the power of reiki healing energy because I have received it. I have literally been in heaven on earth in my body from receiving the miracle of God’s revitalizing power through my sisters’ palms. So if that same power is in my hands (literally), what should hold me back from exercising it? Mic check. Is this thing on? I remember our first encounter. I came to the yellow Sankofa House on Waters Avenue for a reiki session. Wearing yellow. I had received an email from you 2 days prior with the instructions to wear white, but I didn’t have any white. After kindly welcoming me into the house, you said something like, “You ain’t read the email? You was supposed to wear white.” And I remember thinking something like, “this lady is feisty and unafraid to say what’s on her mind.” I was slightly taken aback but I wasn’t offended. It was refreshing for someone to say exactly what’s on their mind. Plus, something in your tone felt loving and familiar. A few months later, I popped up at the Sankofa House on a gardening day. I didn’t know you much yet because we had spent little together (I could count on one hand), but I wanted to help tend to the plants. After gardening, we spontaneously decided to go to the beach. “Yemoja Assessu, Assessu Yemoja…” You gave me lessons on how to sing to the Great Mother of the ocean. When we got back to the house, you turned to me and said, “I got you. Whatever it is, don’t worry about it— I got you.” After processing how seen I felt in that moment, I said it back, “I got you too.” I had no idea how safe and sacred our relationship grow to be. Sister, Mother, Doula, Great Mother. You embody so many layers for me personally, and so many others as well. (Like aLOT of people). I witness the beauty, power, gentleness and fierceness that moves through you. And through witnessing you, something in me was reminded to see myself deeper too. [Continued in comments…]
